Listening to it on audible. VERY interesting discussion about how Duke deals with scarcity and, in return, creates alumni connections as they deal with the different segments of aluni, undergrads and grad students.....

1) Undergrads - first come first serve except for NC which requires camping out (but you can rotate) up to 2 months prior and builds a shared experience of living in the tents.

2) Grad students - 72 hour camp out with random checks to be sure you are actually still there for the right to enter a LOTTERY - designed to weed out the most bb crazed grad students and also builds a shared hardship leading to increased alumni engagement.

3) Alumni - 8K to get onto the multi-year waiting list. Unspecified what the donation nut is after getting the right to buy tixs.

Mostly what I thought about was missing Harmon and how keeping capacity (and configuration) like that could have been leveraged.

In our current era with 20 games on TV every night including the one that's being played just down the street, smaller capacity might be better, for both football and basketball. Set aside a reasonable number of seats for students and make the rest of the seats scarce enough that when the team is good the tickets are hard to get.

Sounds like what Harmon was for awhile.

Harmon had seats down to the court and everything was live. Best venue ever.

Oh yes. I remember. Totally loud & obnoxious. 6660 or so of us, what fun. I went to games there from 1977-1990. Something else not directly related was the Golden State Warriors "Ramp" at halftime, when 1000 or so of the fans went for cannabis. Think that was early '80's.

Thanks to Knowlton/Fox/Mike Williams Cal MBB is currently irrelevant.

Thanks to Knowlton/Smith Cal WBB is currently irreverent.

I used to go to several MBB and WBB games each year and watch the rest on tube (heck, I even used to follow the games play by play on the internet from unusual places like Africa, South America, China and Holly Land while traveling). That was when we mostly won or at least we were competitive.

It is hard to imagine that not long ago we had good coaches like Monty and Lindsey and good AD like Sandy.

Now, it hurts to even think about the current state of Cal MBB and WBB.

Something needs to change.

Go Bears!

Knowlton could hire a chaplain to church them up.

Last year's record wasn't about coaching, it was about injuries and inexperience. Due to injury three of the top four guards played exactly one game total. We were left with one soph, one international freshie who wasn't ready, one high schooler who graduated early and joined the team in January, and two walk-ons. One of our bigs also missed half of our games.

We had four sophs and six freshies on scholarship, zero juniors or seniors. And essentially no preseason practice due to COVID-19. Between injuries and COVID-19 we played only 17 games. We had to cancel the remainder because we couldn't meet the minimum of 7 scholarship players.

I'm expecting this season to be much better. We have quite a bit of talent, some experience now, and three new players plus proper practices and injuries possibly healing,.

We have quite a bit of talent....

God I want that to be true but it isn't. About a 6 weeks from now when we struggle to beat UCSD we can revisit.

FWIW, maybe not much, our 2020 class included the #13, #35, #51, and #89 players in ESPN's Top-100.

Yes, too early to tell now. I've seen good signs from three of the four aforementioned players and one of the international players. We also have one incoming freshie who may be very good. But I expect my opinions to be adjusted by the middle of the conference season.

What list are you looking at. This is the one I AM
http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2020/order/true

Perhaps 13th in the State? Cause if Cal had 4 top 100 recruits I would be happy as a clam.

Talk about blue and gold colored glasses......
