I think that Mike Brown would make a great college coach. He's still fairly young(51).

College coaching is about recruiting, recruiting and recruiting, and a lot of people don't like to have their success depend on convincing 16-year-olds to come to their school.

I see women's coaches all the time at our practices, and they just come and watch 90 minutes of boring drills just to show the flag. And summers are spent in the bleachers watching club teams.

Coaching? Important, but only if you have the horses.

and the recruiting increases the time commitment immensely for a college coach vs a pro coach. if you're used to the pro coaching lifestyle, jumping to college may not be desirable.

The NBA season is long and is fairly constant, you are on the road for long stretches. College is two games a week. Road trip every other weekend.

The NCAA also limits recruiting time and practice time.

I would not say college is necessarily a bigger time commitment, though those that spend a lot of time scouting recruits, scouting opponents, watching tape and improving their craft, etc are usually more successful. I agree 100% that it is best to love recruiting. That is the key difference.

Of course, Monty was very successful and he hated recruiting and rarely did it.

I wish I could find it, but there was a long article in the Comicle (?) awhile back where they interviewed a coach who had worked at both levels. He said there was no comparison in terms of time spent on the job--college was hands down the big time sucker.

I don't think Monty had to do much recruiting at Furd. It seems to recruit itself. Haase has done nothing at Furd, yet he keeps attracting big recruits. Coincidence?

After being head coach of the Lakers for 5 days (?) after trying to install the Princeton offense? Before that, head coach at Cleveland. Played college ball at USD. High school in Germany (father In the military?). I trust Kerr's judgement. If we can't have Kerr, his top assistant seems like a good candidate.

Again, it's what you enjoy ...

If you like recruiting, then college is a good place. If you don't, then the pros are better because the entire focus is on basketball, and working with older players who are (presumably) more mature.

I would never want to be a college coach because I have no desire to spend my time texting 16-year-olds.

If you were paid $millions to do it, would that change your mind?

What is your ballpark figure for Brown's current salary? My guesstimate is $3.25.million.

Eric Abrams of Stanfurd preferred college.

GO BEARS!!!

NBA assistant coaches typically make $100k to $1 milllion tops, depending on experience.

Brown was getting paid by Cleveland and LA as a Warriors coach.

Thus, I am sure the Warriors are paying him far less than we pay Fox.

Thanks. I just showed almost complete ignorance..........it isn't the first or, I concede, the last time.

I do like that he started with Popovich and currently works under Kerr:

He has coached Lebron, Kobe, Steph Curry, Kevin Garnett

That he already lives in the Bay Area is another plus.
