But none of those 100 coaches want to come to Cal according to many of the experts on this forum. They would all scoff at the 10-20x salary increase because Cal is such a unique situation that it takes a special kind of coach to be charitable enough to take our money and lose games.
Thank you. There are 100 qualified coaches out there that would KILL to get this gig.
2 narratives that grind my gears:
1. The Cal job isn't attractive. Bullshi*. We have a hoops tradition, we have a good brand, we are Power 5. Yes, we aren't a blueblood that's going to be in the running for top coaches but we aren't San Jose St. either. There are 300+ D-1 programs out there, we are in the Top 100.
2. Fox was the best we could do and he was hired to "raise the floor" after the Wyking disaster. This is asinine. You don't hire for mediocrity. Yes, it's a rebuild, but in hoops, an energetic and experienced coach that can recruit can turn things around quickly. There was no guarantee that Fox could bring us back to average and we're witnessing that failure right now. So what, the plan was Fox rebuilds the program after 3-4 years then we can him and hire a new coach to take us even further? That makes zero sense.
