Their only win is over Portland State. They lost three games: Samford, Princeton and Wake Forrest by a total of two points (lost to Wake on a neutral court in OT).

Cal #120 (#186 offense, #68 defense, #307 tempo)
OSU #115 (#108 offense, #122 defense, #298 tempo)

Cal is playing good defense. OSU has an OK offense. Both teams play slow.

However, the Luck rankings:
Cal #146
OSU #339

Let's hope that continues.

Looking at Sagarin Predictor
Cal #128
OSU #111

Looking at Sagarin Recent
Cal #127
OSU #220

Cal is almost identical in the two measures, but OSU is faltering. The losing is probably taking its toll on their psyche.

It is a chance for us to sneak a win against a team that was really good by the end of last season, winning the PAC-12 Tournament and advancing to the Elite 8, defeating 5 Top 25 teams in the process and finishing ranked.

Yes this is an ideal conference matchup to start. The one at Utah will be tougher. But heck we did beat an undefeated Fresno State team.

the odd thing is they have almost everyone back, but their best player from a sweet sixteen team

The really odd thing is that Oregon St. made the Elite 8 at all!

Cmon man, its obvious. In all 3 games they were defeated by 2/3 of a point. You must not be a Cal grad!

It's like charge on quarks.

Or they used Cal scorekeepers.

I would not feel bad for them if they did... They have their own expert scoreboard operators. I remember the Corvallis Minute.

I think one was OT, so at end of reg there was 0 points difference + two games that were lost by one point each

just a thought

This has me all kinds of confused …. I don't think losing THREE games by a total of 2 points is possible …

It's like our football team. Do you know we are 4-7 but +8 in points differential, even after the beat down by UCLA?

OSU continues to struggle. It is amazing that OSU made the Elite 8 earlier this year. Good that we took care of business. UW is struggling too. I think we are looking at 10th right now, with a higher finish a possibly.

Definitely rooting for these guys. .

I think we can steal a W at Utah if a couple of their bigs are out.

Yeah, they fired Krystkowiak and had massive player turnover. I think it is good that we get them early.

Thanks for doing this.

I'm not as knowledgeable as I was a couple of years ago......Questions

*What are the Luck rankings?
*What caused OSU to be #339?

*What about Torvick?

Simply put, "luck" accounts for the difference between your W/L ratio and your points scored/points against ratio. A team that scores as many points as it gives up should win as many games as it loses, on average. Basically, Oregon had lost more very close games than nearly anyone else in the country.
