Strange game with strange game flow. Cal's 2 leading rebounders are guards. Cal finally pulling away.

Yes, maybe Grant gets set too quick so he actually isn't set. Maybe that is a sage observation.

On 2nd reflection, he must be setting properly today.

When he doesn't rush it, like on the wide open catch and shoot he is a great shooter

Fox must have lit a fire under the bums at the half, and they looked amazing. Huge second half effort. Go Bears!

8-5. Would not have expected it after the first game. The team is really coming along.
Hoping for .500 or better in conference. Will be really happy if it happens. Not at all surprised if it doesn't.

We simply need undercover representatives from the City of Berkeley Public Health Division to meet the U$C and FUCLA team buses at Haas and rapid test them before they take the court. I'll take a couple of forfeit W's.

For all those who would love Fox gone, I am seeing more out of these players this year than I expected, I have seen much better team defense, and I have seen better offense albeit in spurts. But being down 5 at the half and winning by 20 sez something.

And then the biggest thing is we adjust at halftime. That is coaching.

It was close until the last quarter when we went on a huge run. Dunno if it was halftime adjustments or our threes taking UOP out of the game.

Grant not only hit 7 or 11 threes, and scored 25 points on 9-14 shooting, but he had a double-double with 11 rebounds. He also made no mistakes except 1 foul as the rest of his line was 2 steals, 1 block and zero turnovers.

Also played good defense, including staying in front of his man, and defending well in the post

A complete game

I am struggling with this: WHAT IS THE RECORD FOR MOST MADE 3 POINTERS IN A GAME BY A CAL BEAR?

*I have no memory of seeing more than Grant's 7 today.

Back from the Haas: That WAS a strange game. Things weren't working very well for us... until all of a sudden they were. I don't know what's going to happen in January and beyond, but we've had a good December and the last four seasons we didn't even have that. The Bears can enjoy their Holidays!!!

Thank you, kind Sir.

"What is the record for the most 3 pointers in one game?

Through December 18, 2019, only 19 players have made at least 12 three-point field goals in a single game. The all-time record is 15, which had only occurred one time between 1986-87 and 2017-18 by Marshall's Keith Veney. On December 14, 1996, he set the record against Morehead State."

Players buying into the staff expectations and game preparation. Joel said that while coach can be passionate and demanding, they all realize and accept his standards because they believe they will be improved players and a better team. Jalen as well says that the intensity coach shows toward him is taken well/accepted - because he respects Coach's knowledge and leadership of the team. Halftime discussion was mostly focused on picking up their defense and rebounding. Guys did that and the game completely changed - along with Grant really being in a groove.

Joe Shipp... my man! Quite a player, eh bearister?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ha! I knew the answer was Joe Shipp. But I also thought Amit Tamir would be on the list for that huge game (30 points?) he had against Oregon, which I thought included a high/record number of threes at the time.

Celestine has shown he's a player from day one. Last year he was one of the few diamonds in the rough of a very rough season. What he's doing this season is not a surprise. If anything, I would like to see him be more aggressive and create his own shot more often. I realize he has had some bad moments of aggressiveness, and Fox promptly yanks him and chews on him when that happens. But I don't think we've yet seen what JC can do with some confidence and aggressiveness (and full health?).

I spent a lot of bandwidth last year defending Fox. Not because I thought he was proving to be a good coach (the jury was always still out for me, as it still is), but because I objected to those who I thought had given up on him way too quickly and wouldn't recognize the decent job he did in Y1 nor would they acknowledge the particular challenges the team faced last season (primarily in the off-season). That said, while it's been fun to see Cal basketball play consistently watchable (and even fun) basketball so far this season, I still think the jury is out until I see two things: a) how this team does in the conference schedule, b) what his recruits do. On that latter point, Alajiki has been a revelation (great energy, tough defense/rebounding, AND a remarkable shot from the arc so far), but haven't really seen anything from the others yet (though I realize health has been an issue so far).

Bottom line: fun, encouraging, but need to see it in conference before I'm all in.

Edited to correct Shahar Gordon reference (thanks to ducky23 and MSaviolives). Posting too late at night!
