We played pretty tough from the middle of the first half to the middle of the second. After that we kinda fell apart.

I was surprised by the lack of posts. Had trouble finding the game thread.

Celestine hasn't had a good shooting game for awhile

We need his scoring

Hope Bearister is OK. And didn't bet his farm on Cal.

3 for 8 is good for us. But he didn't hit any threes or get any free throws.

However AZ shot 62.5%. I can't wait to hear the post-game presser.

It didn't affect the outcome but I thought the game was called too tight. 45 fouls in a game which was not at all rough. Not like the women's Pac-12 Tournament games.

(I wrote that last comment to see if Bearister is still with us.)

Grudging admiration to Arizona for...

+ not losing a beat in transition from Donut Boy (heck, even immediately better)

+ big-time fan support... i hate them with their "U of A!" all the time, but it's largely envy

That's a program.

Now that the regular season is over, the question is how many years will Fox's contract be extended? 5 years? 4 years? 3 years? 2 years? What do you think? I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see 4 or 5 years. Knowlton loves him.

Prior to tip off, the olive oil company that I literally bet my farm property with, and got 22 points from, texted me the photo below, of a man they said they were dispatching to my home to collect the grant deed to the farm in the event Bears failed to cover:

It turns out I have insufficient equity in the farm to have wagered it.

My wife, me and dog packed go bags and vacated the area for parts unknown. Currently in an off grid Motel 6.

Isn't every Motel 6 off grid?

We are hoping the Glocks with twin Cinnabons that we got each other for our anniversary will keep us safe.

You could take more shots than our whole team. Make 'em count!

He's got two years left on his contract and, barring an out-of-character bold move by Knowlton, Fox will be back next year. If they wanted to give him an "extension-for-recruiting-optics", i.e. one with a very favorable buy-out, I'd be okay with that (if the only other option was just keeping him anyway).

To give him a "real" extension (2+ more iron-clad years, fun little raise, etc.), that would just be a slap in the face to the hundreds of remaining Cal fans. Fox seems like a decent guy and a decent coach, but there need to be some results at some point. Certainly we aspire to better than where we are now. I mean, don't we?

New math:
You finish 12th you get a 2-year extension.
You finish 11th you get a 2-year extension.
You finish 10th you get a 2-year extension.
Finishing higher is not defined.

It is something like finish 8th (ie 4 of 6 in the North) and get a 5 year extension. Not something to worry about with Fox.

"We got a little fatigued and made some costly errors there in the second half defensively," Cal coach Mark Fox said. "Against a team with as much talent as they have, you cannot afford to do that."

"Some of those costly errors early, if we could have cleaned those up, we could have been even at the half," Fox said. "Our second-half defense, we just gave up too big of a (shooting) percentage."

According to the stats we let AZ shoot 65% in the 2nd half but only 60% in the first. What a collapse. Maybe if we held them to 60% again everything would have turned out better.

No mention of our own 38.5% shooting? Our 20% three-point shooting? Our 64% free throw shooting when we got to the line 28 times?

Clean up the little things and a 28 point loss can become a win.

If we hit 100% FT it would have been +9 points (+4 at 80%). The usual good FT shooting Lars was 5-9, but he was under assault all game so that was probably a factor

cal gets extra press of AZ loss:

The incident followed a celebratory day at McKale, as the Wildcats closed out their first season under coach Tommy Lloyd in dominating fashion, crushing the Golden Bears

Uh, oh. Wait until Grizzly gets to the part where ESPN "cherry picks" the stat of Arizona as the "first conference team to get 18 wins" without also explaining winning percentage and the total number of conference games.

The Bears were glad to be of service.
