Bill Walton said Cal was bringing in a "stud" next year, 6'10'' ND Okafor. I would bet my life that Walton has never seen Okafor play for even one second. But I have seen him play, maybe more than the Cal coaching staff. Here he is last week. He is #22 in white.

Unlike many of Cal's scholarship players, he is at the pac12 level. He is a good enough athlete and provides Kuany level rim protection. In the game linked I saw him score 9 points, and maybe he had a few more as I did not see all of it. But that was on 5-8 free throws and two lay ups. Once he faces up and misses the rim by about two feet. Another time he spins and bricks a 10 footer. He is very right handed. He is not ready to score more than 5 points a game at the college level. He is not a good rebounder yet as he lacks feel, but he might improve as he lacks experience.

Whether he is Cal's third or fourth string 5 next year depends on whether Kelly returns. Big guys have the most room for improvement, so it is difficult to say where he will be in two or three years. It is not his fault, but Cal needed ball handling and shooting skills in this class, as they have almost none of either.
