on espn radio there was a discussion of Golden to Florida, and how he (and his USF) predecessor used analytics to scout players to recruit (including in transfer portal) and as a way to optimize their playing, and to scout opponents

I remember reading before that (I think) Michigan having something like 5 grad assistants who just did analytics for the team

So with Cal's world class math program, can we get a few sports loving math grads to help our teams?

Do you really think fox knows what analytics is?

Does he even know that you get three points if you shoot it past that line thingy?

Our offense is something out of Hoosiers.

I wish! Not a math major here, but I know my way around a calculator. Channeling SFCityBear, I went back and watched the movie twice and scrapped together stats from the internets. After punching the numbers for that Hoosiers team they had the second-best offense in Indiana that year.

More like Hoovers. They suck.

Yes, one of the reasons I was sad we didn't go after Smith or Golden is that they fit the intellectual profile of our university with "nerd ball.". Smith introduced analytics to Bennett when he was at St.Mary's and used it to completely turn around the Columbia program from decades of bottom dwelling to a championship contender in a much stronger Ivy League.

I don't think Fox can pick it up easily. Moreover, he has been pretty set in his ways, playing the same style for the last 17 years or so. It is not like the 3 pt shot was just introduced. His comments about Kelly's physique as a reason to limit his starts and minutes as a sophomore and junior are classic errors straight out of "Moneyball." I just don't see him letting some undergrad math, statistics or Econ major tell him who he should recruit and who he should play.

I'd rather we just hire Golden.
