Seems like there were more than 14.

Looking at those covers reminds me of what a great magazine Sports Illustrated once was. My stepdad started a subscription when I was maybe 12-13, so mid 1960s and kept it through high school. He didn't give a damn about sports, but I guess he wanted to expose me to good writing. Since then, I've received it sporadically so seen its transformation, generally getting worse. The worst was when they tried to be like USA Today - lots of "Five Reasons For . . . " types of short articles - basically written by and for morons. I guess it's ok now - after a decline, the writing has improved somewhat since it became a monthly, but if I didn't get it, I wouldn't miss it. Maybe it's still the best place for sports journalism, I'm not sure where else to look. Maybe The Athletic? Thoughts?
