Agree, it's hard to imagine us coming up with enough to beat out overseas play but by staying
-familiar language
-familiar team

But I'd think the deciding factor would be, does another year at Cal get him closer to the NBA compared to his other options?
Fox was able to scrounge up some Zachary's gift cards and a couple of Top Dog t-shirts. Not sure if that will be enough.

Wazzu's top three returning scorers all in the portal. 6 players in all. I thought Kyle Smith was building something there?

See the "Pay to Play" thread. Eventually I'll even get tired of complaining about it here and, after10+ years, will shift my attention completely away from this league and give it the same attention that I do to the G League and the Spanish Professional league (whatever it's called). That is none.

agree. I've already shifting to other Cal sports like softball

as for Roberts, I thought he already transferred once... I guess a player can transfer once as an undergrad with immediate eligibility, and again as a grad transfer with immediate eligibility

WSU will have a tough time without those 3 players

I counted the total stars of the 12 players left on the roster inc, the two frosh coming in. I left out Kelly. 12 players = 30 stars total. Verbal commits.com is a great, but depressing site if your teams the one with no talent. Nebraska has two 4 and one 5 star coming in. Cal and Oregon St. Are the two worst P5 teams in college hoops.

And at least OSU had the elite 8 run last year. We really may be the absolute worst program in P5 basketball.

Yes and depressing for sure. Leaving Kelly out, is likely the right assumption. Latest is that trips are planned to visit Florida, Ohio St. and UCSB (due to strong relationship with Coach Pasternak first recruiting go around). Likely going to come down to NIL along with comfort with HC.

Wooow, if Pasternak or Golden lands him. What a gut punch by 2 coaches we identified years ago as feasible candidates.

Can we get some good news?

If he is going to play another year in college to get more attractive to the NBA, it would need to be at a program where he can play PF and away from the basket, especially demonstrating 3 pt shooting. With Grant struggling last year and Lars improving, we could have done that last year. However, with Grant now gone, maybe that is Fox's pitch?
Exactly - Since Fox needs to overcome the perception of "my stock is as high as it can be". Kelly wants to showcase/develop his outside shot to be part of his package. The pay structure of playing overseas can fairly easily be neutralized by donor's chipping in with a NIL arrangement. AK is really more driven by Gleague/nba team tryouts (which is not going to happen in the way he would hope). AK is being advised by different people with different thoughts - He will not make any decision until after finals and even then he has flexibility to decide which path he will take. I would like to see him back not just for Cal, but also for his development, as he has improved under this staff and leaving is a risky move that does not always work out. His skill set would improve as he is a focal part of the team, versus being just a part elsewhere.
And if no one else developed in to an inside scoring threat, Fox will put Kelly back in to the middle and screw his nba chances

Yep. He should have gotten SOME time at PF last year.

-Fox is entering his 4th year with the program and has not brought in a point guard.

-We have lost recruits to St. Mary's, St. Bonaventure and Loyola Marymount this past year.

-As it stands now, our projected starting lineup averaged 25 ppg last year.
He should be extended, since how is he supposed to succeed without a point guard?

To be fair, there is only one spot, so it does not matter who he misses on, only who he gets.
DJ Thorpe scholarship is open (he keeps his aid due to medical retirement) and while Andre Kelly has been a longer shot to stay, its become close to 50/50 on him staying. Teammates are weighing on him and Coach Fox is trying to stir up a reasonable NIL deal. Interesting how roster's can swing some in fairly short time. Coach as it is required/expected, is out aggressively on the recruiting trail ie was in Indy over the weekend, to watch the Oakland Soldiers play. Still the many misses continues to be disappointing.
That would be interesting if we got Dre back and we have DJ's (medical retirement - aw man I was hoping for some good play from him) and Klonara's schollys available to use?
My understanding is that there is one now and only another opens up, if Kelly does not come back.
There is now two available, good luck to Andre Kelly as He will shortly announce his transfer decision. Hint - a coach who is a proven winner, put players in the NBA, has strong local ties and has gone to tournament.

I can understand transferring for NIL money, but I don't think Santa Barbara would be the place. Plus the putting players in the NBA would not apply.

Gabe Vincent has started much of the playoffs for the #1 seed in the East, Miami Heat.
JaQuori McLaughlin played a couple games for the Dallas Mavericks on a 2 Way before an injury sidelined him for the season. Both played for Pasternack.

I heard that Andre did visit UCSB

Maybe Knowlton thinks it's fine for Santa Barbara to have a better basketball team than Berkeley. As long as we're meeting his standards for excellence.
