I'm not going to debate the academic or economic or sociological aspects of Olympic sports or their worth to the University. But personally I'm not interested in watching them so if basketball and football disappear I'll have no connection to Cal athletics.
I have a question for you...
Do you enjoy watching mediocre Cal Football and Basketball Teams that struggle to end up with a .500 season?
How do you derive enjoyment from that?
The reason that I asked this question is because when Cal Football was a joke under Sonny Dykes, people on Bearinsider would joke about how they would wind up doing sprinkler repair on Saturday's instead of watching the hapless Bears.
Personally, I chose to start attending a couple of Rugby matches.
And I was pleasantly surprised that I did. I really enjoyed them and it certainly helped that the coaching staff were WINNERS and so was the TEAM that was my alma-mater. It takes awhile to understand the rules, but you camp out near others who know the sport and learn the "game" doing so.
Same can be said for Water Polo.
Extremely competitive MPSF conference with one All-American recruit after another.
Coached by someone that not only understands the mechanics of coaching, but the art of coaching as well.
The results speak for themselves.
I like watching COMPETITVE COACHES and COMPETITIVE TEAMS.
Not losing Conference programs that struggle to have a .500 season with mediocre at best, coaches.
I guess I must be some kind of an "outlier" here.
