According to this site (https://watchstadium.com/not-so-secret-list-of-2022-college-basketball-scrimmages-10-07-2022/) Cal scrimmaged Utah State yesterday. Does anyone know why Utah State (in the past we've scrimmaged against St. Mary's) and how it went?

we don't always scrimmage st marys, even though he have recently

i was wondering if the team was going to do this, which I think is helpful for both teams as I understand it's a controlled scrimmage (no one wants anyone hurt)

Or a score. Seems like a good idea, avoids losing to UC San Diego.

I didn't see it - feedback from a player, was very even - despite Utah St playing their starters toward the end of each quarter (different set up with 5 quarters). Cal mainly looked at multiple sets of different combinations. Player felt positive that the potential is there. Teams are allowed to schedule 2 of these preseason scrimmages (closed to public). Ucsb scrimmaged SJS and will scrimmage Stanford this Saturday.

Good per the player - their starting line up even with us, but our 2nd tier players better. But with scrimmages its more looking at various players/combinations and score is secondary. He felt their coaches were putting more emphasis on the outcome. Btw Andre Kelly had 18 pts in one half of UCSB scrimmage (though the HC said SJS is really bad)

I hate to throw cold water on this sentiment, but I'd argue that a team with a starting lineup even with ours and a bench that is worse than ours is likely not a good team. We could certainly be much better than our projections this year, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Which appears to have hurt both programs.
