Do you think the starting five will be the same for the UC Davis game as the exhibition?

What are the changes ND Okafor takes wins a starting spot by midseason?

Give me some notes of optimism

The scoring is going to be a huge concern. We had at least three guys that could go for 15 ppg last year -- Kelly, Shepherd and Grant -- and even then we were offensively challenged. Askew may be the only one that even remotely fits that bill now. There's gonna be some pain.

Yah you can overcome a lot of athleticism and height with high percentage shooters. A lot of mid-majors take that approach.

IF everyone gets/stays healthy then next season we could start Askew, Celestine, Newell, Alajiki, and Okafor.

I know Celestine can shoot and I hope Askew and Newell will be reliable shooters. Alajiki can hit open threes and stuff around the basket. I don't think Okafor will be asked to take outside shots, I hope he'll be reliable inside.

So we could be OK, better if we get some backups who can hit a shot and someone who can coach offense.

I wonder if Fox thinks he can make shooters since he hangs his hat on player development? Which btw doesn't really ring true. Has any player grown leaps and bounds under Fox's tutelage? Beyond average improvement rate across the board in college hoops?

Scoring Averages Last 3 Years:
Lars 4.7, 2.9, 3.0
Kuany 4.8, 2.3, 2.2
Joel 4.8, 5.2, 2.4
Grant 9.7, 8.9, 8.3
I'll give him Kelly: 13.4, 10.3, 7.5

I think Askew will be an ok 3 point shooter; let's hope Clayton and Newell are as well. And that Sam sustains a decent percentage with increased attempts.

A coach who "hangs his hat on development" at the "only school in the country" without a dedicated practice facility (and little hope of having one soon) and where student athletes have probably the most difficult academic load and least time available to work on basic skills is a really bad fit. Cal is therefore the worst possible school in the country to implement that strategy. That means a coach that relies on that strategy is the worst possible coach for Cal.

I think Cal starts Thieman, Askew, Kuany, Brown and Alijiki - or was I supposed to just complain about how bad we're going to be like everyone else on a thread titled Starting Five?

I think coach sold Askew on filling the Jordan Sheppard role

I hope he can do that but I have my concerns
