...it doesn't exist. Unless the rock is served up on a silver platter you can be sure it's going the other way. I was really hoping he would eventually grow out of that.

Sure he had a career night scoring 17 points against an undersized post player; however, he also gave up a career night to the same undersized post player (21 pts).

At 7'1", I just couldn't understand why he kept putting the ball on the floor or around his waist. There is zero reason for that!

I thought there was a thread about Lars moving on to the Pro level. Maybe all this so far is a temporary set back.

I root for Lars. He is much improved over his 4 years.

But last night when the ball was literally ripped out of his hands when he was standing 18 feet away from the basket, with his back completely turned, the Bears were finished.

I try not to get involved in the Mark Fox discussions. But if I see a repeat of that play one more time then there is no justification for Fox to be coaching this team.

He should look at 6'7" Sela Heidi on our women's team. She 's great at keeping the ball up where nobody can reach it.

I have to say Thiemann is a good kid, tries hard and has improved. However, his hands are just really weak/soft. It's not just the 50/50 ball but also when he gets fed. If it is not completely in his breadbasket or there is a little pace on it he fumbles it away. Can you help a kid to get stronger with his hands? Someone of it is just natural. But the thing that Fox should have helped him in 3 years is awareness. Guys are trying to rip the ball from you. Assume that. And adapt accordingly. Sigh.

I've given up on hoping that Lars will suddenly develop the ability to catch a ball. But for the love of everything when he does catch one STOP LOWERING IT FOR AN IMMEDIATE STRIP. PLEASE.

Lars handling the ball in the high post is probably the single worst coaching decision you can make with this team and that is saying something.

It is not a talented team, but you have to put the players in the best position to succeed, not the worst. Coaching has to be a positive, not a negative.

I just shake my head when people say he is a good Xs and Os coach, a great developer of talent, or even a good recruiter much less "beloved by his players."

Exactly right. One impression I got from the game was that not only Lars, but several of our players committed the same sin, bringing the ball down, and many times, UC Davis players stole the ball from them. It amazes me how many players arrive in college without having learned this fundamental skill. As far back as the 1950s, I learned this skill from coaches in the 8th and 9th grades. I pity Mark Fox with the roster he has now. He and his staff are good teachers of individual skills, but this year, the staff really has their work cut out for them. So many things to teach, so little time.

Pity him? These are all his players he recruited. Every single one of them.

He praised this team as being his first/most that is "cooperative" presumably after chasing off all the players already enrolled who knew something about basketball and had an opinion.

Yeah, it is great for a poor recruiter and his defenders to then use that as an excuse.

LOL, how did "the one that got away to the Gaels" (a.k.a. that PG Aidan Mahaney) do?

(Vanover coulda been Shawn Bradley with Varying Hairstyles, if only he'd stayed at Cal.)

Sueing, Kelly, and Bradley all played well in their teams opening blowout wins.
