This is a very nice pickup for Fox & Staff. Credit is due. Now let's get some Ws on the court.

I am happy that Curtis is committed, but he is very much more of the same. Brown is a new chapter.wifeisafurd said:
surprising, but recruiting has picked-up. Two recruits that pass th eye ball test as P5 players.
Good news. No matter what happens to Fox, I will give him credit for whatever he does well, and regardless, we need talent whoever the coach is.BC Calfan said:

Sure, Celestine.ncbears said:
Does Fox specialize in recruiting players who have had serious injuries that reduced their HS playing time? Seems like it.
I guess, theoretically, it can pay off if the injured player can resume prior level of play - but has this happened with any Fox recruit?
Yeah Curtis is an upside project with minimal P5 interest.sluggo said:I am happy that Curtis is committed, but he is very much more of the same. Brown is a new chapter.wifeisafurd said:

Limited, but good film on offense and there is film around showing his defense. He is a shot blocker. Better film than I have seen from the other bigs recruited by Fox. If the film is pre-auto injury, that calls into question his physical ability. But he clearly passes the eye ball test in the film out there.concernedparent said:Yeah Curtis is an upside project with minimal P5 interest.sluggo said:I am happy that Curtis is committed, but he is very much more of the same. His most recent injury that is an ACL injury that happened had nothing to do with his broken leg in high school.
We aren't going to win many battles for legit 4* recruits. That leaves 1) 3* players you think are underRated, 2) guys with upside for other reasons, like injuries that prevented them from playing/being rated; and 3) more limited 3* players who you hope to win with in their 3rd snd 4th season.ncbears said:

Celestine was very good the summer before his senior year and his injury. I think he was underrated and could have contributed immediately if not hurt. There are no "Celestines," unfortunately, just one. I would like more skilled players.tequila4kapp said:We aren't going to win many battles for legit 4* recruits. The international players probably fit #1
The Celestines of the roster probably fit #3
Given our roster it's probably smart to take a couple of flyers on injured players with upside. The only part that makes you go "hmmm" is that both of our are bigs. Might want to spread it around a bit.
I am not sure what this means. His size and upside are good, but his build is rail thin. A work in progress, maybe.BearGreg said:
Curtis was hurt a few years back and lost a season and lost a year of BB then his HS team lost a season because of COVID. His Junior year was his first HS basketball season. The film you see is from his AAU play this Spring and Summer (recent and fully healthy).
He's a hidden gem for sure given his size, build and athletic upside. Likely will take a minute before he can contribute to Cal.
With the talent we have, I would say about 60 seconds is right.BearGreg said:

I think you mean Fox won't win many battles. I'm pretty sure the prior coaches (Jones, Martin, Montgomery, Braun) all got legit 4* players.tequila4kapp said:We aren't going to win many battles for legit 4* recruits. When we recruit a player who has had a serious injury I always wonder if:ncbears said:

More of a duplicate than a complement. Cal needs a big who can score.calumnus said:sluggo said:I am not sure what this means. His size and upside are good, but his build is rail thin. A work in progress, maybe.BearGreg said:

I could see him as a good compliment to Okafor on the front line.
watching the one game highlights of him playing against 4 star big who signed with UCLA, I would say he is NOT a duplicate of Okafor. Completely different game skills.sluggo said:More of a duplicate than a complement. Cal needs a big who can score.calumnus said:sluggo said:I am not sure what this means. I think you have the wrong link or the wrong guy. The link is to Corona Centennial v Etiwanda.HoopDreams said:here is my post in the other thread. The bold does not describe Okafor. They also have completely different builds.
a skilled big man ... can face up and shoot out to the 3, put the ball on the court and drive, pull ups, some nice crossovers and finishes showing his athletism, and even plays some solid fundamental defense (instead of going for the block all the time)
He also produced big time when the game was on the line, although Devon William, a 4 start that committed to UCLA also played very well and was clutch
Needs to get stronger, and hopefully he can recover 100% from his injury (this video was from last year)
Nice pick up
