This is the worst part of this whole fiasco. I cannot believe the way he's bad-mouthing HIS OWN PLAYERS. No accountability for himself or coaching staff. Unbelievable.

"We had some guys that made some mental errors and you cannot win doing that. This group has proven that we have to win everything the hard way, but this is an unacceptable effort and I'm very disappointed."

"It's like the Kansas State game; does the bus have to run over you before you concentrate? I'm just very disappointed in that. I thought we played with much more purpose in the second half than we did in half number one. You just can't dig holes like that and think you can come back and win at this level."

"Our guard play has to be better to start games. Those guys aren't young. Our young guys made some critical errors in the first half, I mean, just costly errors, but they're young and they're going to make those plays that they have to learn from. Our backcourt has to start games better. They know that. I'm certainly very disappointed. I don't want to take anything away from (UC San Diego), because they came out really well and had a great atmosphere. So, I don't want to take anything away from their team but I'm certainly disappointed in our program."

If it happens in one game, maybe the coach can consider it a one-off and mildly mention it. If it happens every game, it's not the team's fault, it's the coach's fault.

And this quote is amazing in how bad it is for a coach to say it:

Quote:

This group has proven that we have to win everything the hard way,
Are you kidding me? Who is responsible for EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THIS GROUP being here? Is he so completely clueless/blind that he can't see that?

Remember how at the beginning of each season he badmouths his players from the previous season. This season he said he actually likes to go to practice with this set of players, previous teams were not up to his standards.

Maybe Fox gave his players what Elon Musk gave his Twitter employees.

From the Washington Post:

Employees were told they had to a sign a pledge to stay on with the company. "If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below," read the email to all staff, which linked to an online form.

Anyone who did not sign the pledge by 5 p.m. Eastern time Thursday would receive three months of severance pay, the message said.

In the midnight email, which was obtained by The Washington Post, Musk said Twitter "will need to be extremely hardcore" going forward. "This will mean working long hours at high intensity," he said. "Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade."

Except for the severance pay.

Sounds like Fox could learn a lot from Hue Jackson's post game statement after every loss in his Raider HC days:

"This loss is entirely on me."

Cue SFCity defense of Fox accusing you of "character assassination" and having an "agenda" when Fox's character and personality (and the results with his teams) have been on full display for 20 years.

Fox is "disappointed in our program"?

Why would anyone with other options want to play for him?

HE is the reason he is a poor recruiter, then when he can only get kids with no other P6 options to come and he cannot "coach them up" or yell them into being better, he blames them, word gets out and he cannot get top recruits. Repeat.

The thing that got me was Knowlton bought his whole "winning the right way" BS.

Anyone who thinks the Georgia boosters stopped giving out money for 9 years while he was there is very gullible.

Before someone makes the comparison to us dumping on Wilcox for giving the same "it starts with me" spiel, that only started because Wilcox time and time again says the right thing and seemingly does nothing to correct the problem. Fox is a feckless loser with endless excuses and blame in addition to doing nothing.

Wilcox -- nice guy, boring personality and football is also defensive, quick to take blame (which is kind of meaningless because usually nothing changes), players and coaches love him, terrible results.

Fox -- not a nice guy, boring personality and basketball is also condescending, never takes blame, players don't like him, not sure if the coaches like him, historically bad results.

Knowlton -- hired Fox and extended both of these guys, and apparently had a significant role in the swimming program scandal which is still pending investigation.

He trashed Bradley in the post games, he transferred then threw shade at him the next season. He then repeated with Kelly with the same result.

Knowlton played hockey for Army then had a career in the Army. He thinks "tough coaches" (often bordering on abuse) like he had in the Army 40 years ago, where even now players cannot enter the transfer portal, is normal.

Knowlton was just a horrible hire for Cal in the 21st century. The Fox hire and extension and the McKeever raise and extension despite complaints of racism and abuse are just part of that. He is the exact opposite of what we need from our leadership.

Much as I wish we had a better basketball team, she really does have more important things to worry about like a massive debt from the pandemic, on top of all the other debt and budget shortfalls, and now a debilitating strike by GSIs and other instructors.

By extending the AD forever, she probably thought she would not need to think about athletics again. But because the AD is incompetent, athletics is coming back at her. It was an unforced error on her part.

Knowlton is one of Carol's direct reports and she absolutely has to deal with the issue of his performance urgently. He should have been fired long ago for his gross incompetence. You can't have a dept running a $30 million deficit every year and make many alumni angry which causes spillover effects.

And that is just resumes. Which, if Knowlton had a similar resume you might understand, but his resume was extremely weak, without the necessary experience needed if her plan was just to delegate and ignore, but does anyone interview that guy and think, "Here is the creative, knowledgeable, foreward thinker to rebuild Cal athletics navigate the complexities of the changing college athletics landscape."
