Not that things are going well, but it's better when the whole offense isn't throw it to Lars and watch for whatever disaster to happen.

What a difference one weekend makes. With Stanford winning two and OSU winning one we'll have an uphill climb to stay out of last place.

Akanno is having quite a game. I haven't seen a beaver that active since my honeymoon.
Except that 2-3 more wins have nothing to do with anything. He might be kept because of the idiot who hired and extended him, but not because the team won 4 in conference rather than 2.ducky23 said:
Cmon guys. Let's be real here. I know we never want to root against us. But the very worst thing that could happen is if we pick up 2-3 more wins, finish 10th or 11th and we see fox roaming the sidelines again next year.
Third in the Big West! 155 on kenpom compared to 242 for Cal (and 242 seems overrated to me). UC Riverside is better than Cal.udaman1 said:
someone tell me right now, is UC Riverside better than we are?
Follow up: Does UCR have a men's basketball team?
I think so. Merced is Division II. They lost to USF by 17 points, which makes me think it might be a game.udaman1 said:
could we hang with Merced?

I don't think Knowlton has his own opinion. He would rather do nothing, he is lazy, but he does hear what boosters and fans say. He does not want the finger pointed at him to maintain his ridiculous salary. He did fire Jones. I maintain 10th through 12th does not matter.ducky23 said:sluggo said:Except that 2-3 more wins have nothing to do with anything. Your statement only makes sense if you assume we are dealing with a rational AD.
Knowlton would prefer to keep fox. He just needs some sort of justification to keep him. Finishing out of last place could help provide such justification.
I mean…have you heard the idiot speak. He brings up excuse after excuse after excuse. He's looking for any silver lining. Any excuse to keep his idiot coach.
A fraud in all dimensions. Playing slowly does not mean good defense.Big Dog said:

Astounding. 15 points at half.

This was against Notre Dame in a tourney in Orlando. Bears lost 57-44.
He fired Jones AFTER the total uproar from everyone around the program... he had no plan on firing Jones at the end of that season, which is why he rushed into this hideous hire.sluggo said:I don't think Knowlton has his own opinion. It's hard to imagine what person would want to take over this program - the roster is .... what it is. The person would have to be a dynamic recruiter - more than dynamic - would have to be heroic.

The Chancellor was there. I hope she enjoyed the game. Half Time entertainment was good.Big C said:
Back from the Haas. And glutton for punishment that I am, I then read through this thread!
Saw Knowlton in what is perhaps the Haas/Goldman row in the second half. Was that the Chancellor there, too? They all seemed quite jovial. More so than me, at any rate.
Not sure why Brown sat for so long in the first half. Yeah, two fouls, but...
Not sure why we are still running twenty seconds of clock on most all of our possessions, even when down by 20 in the second half. I had hoped we learned that lesson when we were able to beat Colorado and Furd.
This was enough of a low point to where, if they didn't roll out a tarmac at the end of non-conference for whatever reason, this afternoon or tomorrow would still make sense. I can't wait to move on. This is just a downer for everybody concerned.
Incoming freshman Brown is good and adds to ball handling and shooting. Need one or two more incoming plus a good, smart, positive coach.calumnus said:ncbears said:

There will be roster openings.
If you had 2 or 3 top level players added to the returning core of Celestine, Newell, Alajiki, Okafor and Askew, I think you could have a decent team if they also had a good, smart, positive coach. Then you build from that.
