Joe always seemed like a nice guy, but Mark Ibanez a bantam rooster pop off pr@ick. I think when they were young, Mark jumped ahead of Joe when Joe had health issues.

Used to be family friends with Rick Quan. The stories he told about radnich, fonzi and Ibanez were hilarious

I think Vern Glenn was the only one he said was a normal, decent human being

Joe Fonzi told a story about the team bus arriving at a hotel one day when on the road and there being a banner at the hotel entrance saying "Welcome Cal State Berkeley Basketball." According to Joe, an enraged Coach Campanelli immediately ordered the bus driver to take the team to a different hotel.

Is anyone else amazed joe Fonzi is still at it? Guy seems like such a curmudgeon
He interviewed my father around 1990

Best seats I ever had in Harmon. Eddie Javius IIRC standing on the rim… ! THAT was a big win.

Eddie Javius was instant energy when put into the game. He got Harmon rocking'.

He also drew a critical foul on Reggie Miller in that UCLA game. When he was asked about it after the game the exchange went something like this:

Why did they call the foul on Miller?
Because he pushed me.
Why did he push you?
Because I pushed him.
Why did you push him?
Why not?

At his core he was a decent and honorable man. Old school ways have not cut it for the last few decades. He was trapped in a time warp. It didn't work out for P. J. Carlesimo either…..or ultimately for the Alloccos at DLS (but they had a run).

Bobby Knoght isn't Italian. Neither is Mark Fox.

I remember my Freshman year 1991, watching a Cal pre-season game at Harmon. That was the great freshman class with Murray, Roberts, Grigsby. I think we were playing Morgan St. Murray had a wide open breakaway and went in for a dunk. He tried a 360 and clunked it badly. Campanelli stood up and stared like he had never seen anything so unbelievably stupid and disrespectful. He pulled Murray, maybe for the rest of the game.

Lou wasn't too happy when Lamond got his breakfast, lunch and dinner eaten at Harmon on 1/30/93 by the late Tony Harris of Washington State.

I can't find a box score but my 30 year old memory of the game is Tony dropped 30 or close to.
