Let's list some names. A little break from the speculation of who our next coach will be, and instead some discussion on who out of our basketball alums might be best to put on a team to go out at find/vet/suggest candidates.

I would start with Marks and SAR. Both have a strong understanding of the business of sports and deep hoop knowledge. I would likely reach out to Gates both to see about interest (highly doubt it) but also to see what he thinks. Monty probably has insight but I am guessing will pitch (again) Travis (who sadly is 10-12 this year). Braun also probably has some understanding.

Random Cal Alumni? I just don't think that is as relevant as people who can really opine about what it takes to manage a P5 program and succeed at a place like Cal.

This is an exercise in futility. Just like discussing who our next coach will be and when we will go to the Rose Bowl.

Marks and Shareef would be perfect. They'd get input from others including Kidd, Yogi, Lampley. But they have the contacts and understand what Cal needs and that Cal is not for everyone.

Cynt Marshall, (originally from Richmond, CA, where she ran track, Haas business grad, one of Cal's first African American cheerleaders, former AT&T executive, published author and then hired and promoted by Mark Cuban to CEO of the Dallas Mavericks) should be the AD if Shareef turns down the job.

I'd be happy to lend my basketball wisdom to the other folks on the panel and maybe teach them a thing or two... I'm sure they could learn a lot from me, whoever they are

Would be good to have someone representing the perspective of current students.

I really, really hope the next coach will do outreach to current students & alums and encourage them to come out to games, and even make suggestions on how to improve the Haas environment (yeah that part should be on the AD & staff but it's pretty clear they have zero clue what they're doing with regards to gameday experience).

Between the videos that people have posted here of the great moments at Haas/Harmon & the stuff I've found online, I would love nothing more than to get to be at a sellout crowd at Haas just one time. Seems electric

I wish I could find it, but there is a clip out there somewhere of UCLA's Earl Watson being envious of the atmosphere at Hass and wishing Pauley Pavilion could replicate it.

The same MBB people plus Cal football and WBB luminaries.

Used to be the toughest place to play in the conference, even with the teams weren't stellar. Loud like Oakland was loud when the W's started their championship run.

Can't be a worse idea than a search firm with a stable of retreads.

Anyone who was involved in hiring Knowlton is an automatic no.

Hiring, overpaying (twice what Arizona pays), then after the above disasters giving him an 8 year extension.

I said this in another thread, but the high salaries are a false flag operation to convey a competency that is not apparent.

" Why are you complaining about Knowlton? He is paid $1.3 million a year and he wouldn't get paid that kind of money if he is an idiot who has no idea what he is doing. "

When it comes to basketball I could be described as an idiot with no idea what I'm doing. But I'd do it for less than $1.3M per year (and let Fox go and assemble a hiring committee of folks who do know what they're doing).

I've been throwing his name out for a while. He already coaches at Lincoln University..low key job, but he'd bring legitimacy and a hall of fame mentality to the program. He would get local talent and the support of all the local AAU programs that have abandoned us awhile ago. Believe it or not..we need those connections too! GP could be our Coach Prime of hoops!

Marks, Abdur-Raheem, Randle, Monty, Braun, Brown. Brown is on to give the perspective of current players. The others because they have experience as coaches, players or execs. I don't want the committee to get bogged down by being too large, so it can make a recommendation efficiently.
