Let's list some names. A little break from the speculation of who our next coach will be, and instead some discussion on who out of our basketball alums might be best to put on a team to go out at find/vet/suggest candidates.
Why. Not going to happen.eastcoastcal said:

I would start with Marks and SAR. Both have a strong understanding of the business of sports and deep hoop knowledge. I would likely reach out to Gates both to see about interest (highly doubt it) but also to see what he thinks. Monty probably has insight but I am guessing will pitch (again) Travis (who sadly is 10-12 this year). Braun also probably has some understanding.oskidunker said:Why. I'd be happy to lend my basketball wisdom to the other folks on the panel and maybe teach them a thing or two... I'm sure they could learn a lot from me, whoever they arecalumnus said:

I really, really hope the next coach will do outreach to current students & alums and encourage them to come out to games, and even make suggestions on how to improve the Haas environment (yeah that part should be on the AD & staff but it's pretty clear they have zero clue what they're doing with regards to gameday experience).calumnus said:eastcoastcal said:I'd be happy to lend my basketball wisdom to the other folks on the panel and maybe teach them a thing or two... Would be good to have someone representing the perspective of current students.
I wish I could find it, but there is a clip out there somewhere of UCLA's Earl Watson being envious of the atmosphere at Hass and wishing Pauley Pavilion could replicate it.eastcoastcal said:
Between the videos that people have posted here of the great moments at Haas/Harmon & the stuff I've found online, I would love nothing more than to get to be at a sellout crowd at Haas just one time. Seems electric
The same MBB people plus Cal football and WBB luminaries.dimitrig said:
Who should be on the AD search advisory committee?
Used to be the toughest place to play in the conference, even with the teams weren't stellar. Loud like Oakland was loud when the W's started their championship run.eastcoastcal said:I really, really hope the next coach will do outreach to current students & alums and encourage them to come out to games, and even make suggestions on how to improve the Haas environment (yeah that part should be on the AD & staff but it's pretty clear they have zero clue what they're doing with regards to gameday experience).calumnus said:eastcoastcal said:I'd be happy to lend my basketball wisdom to the other folks on the panel and maybe teach them a thing or two... Can't be a worse idea than a search firm with a stable of retreads.bluehenbear said:
Are coaching search advisory committees even a thing?
Anyone who was involved in hiring Knowlton is an automatic no.dimitrig said:

Hiring, overpaying (twice what Arizona pays), then after the above disasters giving him an 8 year extension.

I said this in another thread, but the high salaries are a false flag operation to convey a competency that is not apparent.
When it comes to basketball I could be described as an idiot with no idea what I'm doing. But I'd do it for less than $1.3M per year (and let Fox go and assemble a hiring committee of folks who do know what they're doing).calumnus said:
