Some folks are really high on Newell. I am somewhat less so. I don't really like his shot (others do) and he appears, I dunno, unorthodox (for lack of a better word). Average athleticism, for a 3-4. One thing I will say... sometimes I'm not really noticing and then I will see he has a respectable number of points and rebounds. He's a guy I hope stays with the program (and I don't feel that way about all the guys on the roster).

Yes, he has some potential. I'm glad he came to Cal. You're a little higher on that potential than I am.

I'm no coach, but, when you're up 18-11, you don't wanna let the opposing team go on a 44-17 run, do you?

Keep in mind that Newell missed his senior year of high school due to covid and most of his post high school year due to injury. Like Celestine, and for the same reason, I think it will take until his sophomore year to show what he has. He can do a little bit of a lot of things, including handling the ball. On a functional team he could score off cuts and things rather than trying to generate his own offense. I think his shot has potential. He seems to shoot on the way down, which throws off his accuracy.

You could imagine a middle of the conference team with him on it. I can't say that of many of his teammates.

i turned on the game midway through the second half, after finding out we had one only because I saw this game thread. I watched for a few minutes, got bored, so I let it play in the background as I did a problem set for one of my classes. congrats on cleaning the bathroom. internet high five for productivity

He doesn't understand if you had that conversation 4 years ago, the reps last about 2 years. Call the new guy, make the statement. They're not bothering to read this forum… but they do care about season ticket sales going off a cliff. My message to all the regulars here is to think of ways to be heard by JK or Christ instead of starting yet another "Why Fox sucks" thread for the 20th time.
