Would it be possible/within NCAA rules to fire coach fox and staff and not replace them? Could the players coach themselves? I'd imagine this would get national attention.
Or sell the game day coaching experiences to wealthy CAL donors who want the once in a lifetime experience.

why not think outside the box? innovate. what do we have to lose?

Literally anything is better than playing out the string with what we have now.

And as a special package, for an extra $50k, donors can also attend a press conference and have an opportunity to talk about the historic number of injuries suffered to the team, as well as lament the lack of defense

maybe we should offer a similar 'coach for a day' package but it's 'AD for the day'

This is awesome and I agree. Fire them all and let the guys just play. We can't possibly do worse and those who are demanding change will be satisfied.

charge $100,000 ( going into a basketball NIL fund ) per game to coach an NCAA bb game. $200,000 for the pac 12 tourney game. use the money to rebuild the team. this would get huge national exposure and help raise more NIL money.

I've looked at videos of Andrew Francis interviewed back when he worked for head coaches that allowed him to be interviewed and I think he would make an excellent interim head coach.

Guest coaches. One per week until the end of the season.

It worked for hosts of late night shows…

Also it would be fun for all involved including the poor players.

Coach by committee. BI posters would send in plays by zoom conference call, you know, like the two Toobining commentators that call our games on ESPN-U.

HoopDreams and SFCityBear would be Co-BI HC's. I would send snacks to the residences of all BI participants via DoorDash. You would have to supply your own drugs and alcohol.

I would fall on the sword after each loss via a post game zoom pressie where I would say, "The loss is entirely on me….but a rash of player injuries didn't help nor the fact that most of the BI coaching staff was either high or drunk during the game."

KAB would be head cheerleader. The beautiful Hawaiian background to his zoom cheers would be eye catching.

This is awesome and would turn our program into a fun game show....which is one step above the joke of a program it is today.

This scenario actually played out with my (at the time) 13 yr old son's competitive/traveling soccer team. Their regular coach had to step down abruptly at the beginning of the season for personal reasons, and the replacement/assistant was epically bad, with an 0-fer streak to open the season rivaling Cal's/Fox's. The parents revolted, the coach was sacked, and for several weeks, the kids practiced by themselves and played games without a coach (and only revolving parental oversight at practices and games.) I'm pretty sure that this would have been against league rules had anyone been paying close attention. But, given the relatively low stakes, no one outside the team complained. They started winning and then a young enthusiastic guy who wanted to gain experience coaching youth sports eventually took over on the cheap. The team ended the year on a six game win streak, against the teams that had crushed them earlier in the year.
It worked because the kids, even though they were only 13, fully embraced the leadership challenge They spontaneously organized the drills that they remembered from the prior years in practice and designated on-field leaders for each game. I have no doubt that Cal's current players could do exactly that. Also, revolving oversight could include ex-players (e.g. Lamond Murray, Jerome Randle, etc.) who might not want to coach permanently, but, for a day or two...why not!
I say go for it! If this strategy raised revenue on top of that, all the better.

Loved that story! What an experience for those kids.

So it has come to this of all things Carol - your alumni and fan base are hoping for no coaching at all as a step in the right direction for your #2 revenue sport. Great work.

The players would be fine for a few weeks; maybe better. Basketball isn't rocket science. TWO BASKETS AND A BALL

But some ideas are too good to ever be realized. Sad.

That's an idea: how about bringing Todd Bozeman back as an interim to restore morale (he did that before) and give him an opportunity for redemption?
Fire Knowlton!
Fire Fox!

Yeah. He's good at paying players, which is now allowed. Bring him back.
