I think most of us have run our course on the fire fox threads, we all at this point are just waiting for him to be terminated. so in the spirit of finding something new to talk about,

what are things you'd like to see done to Haas/gameday experience for basketball?

For me:

- connect the student section
- move band closer or at least bring more band members to games
- maybe park food trucks outside Haas on game days? Rotate between different local Berkeley businesses

Excellent! In particular:

Students should get the entire lower section on the east side.
Get rid of the room behind those seats and get rid of the floor chairs. Extend the bleachers to the floor.

It's OK if the band is somewhat higher. Then more people can hear them.

More variety and quality in the food.

Make it more like Harmon Gym was back in the mid to late 80's. And yes, put the students and band front and center on the east side all the way down to the court. Maybe free tickets for students. Nothing left to lose at this point, so let it roll. Make it loud and obnoxious for any visiting team.
And yes, fix the food.
Start Slowly and taper off

This. Get rid of the courtside seats and the space + walkway behind them... and get the students down as close as possible. On the other side, figure out a way to get real fans into the chairbacks that go empty.

Thank you east!

And yes, the single best thing Cal can do is restore the student section to it's former glory

One continuous bench that has more rows than today and take out at least the 2nd row of court seats

Move the band down to those seats except when there are too many students. In that case the band can relo to it's current location for those games.

The second thing to do is bring the seats behind the basket down to the floor which is how it used to be. That will bring fans closer to the action and be a more intimidating Haas of Terrors

UW's arena is like this as was Haas before the attempted money grab (which failed miserably)

I also think they could take out some of the seats behind the chair backs and put a type of open box seats there. We don't need the capacity and some fans might the ability to move around and mingle during the game

Similar to what they did in Memorial although not nearly so deep

I also think they should get rid of the sterile lounge in the front lobby, and better use the space similar to how it used to be with a display case of Cal sports stuff like trophies, photos of great players, etc, and a small permanent store, etc. Right now the lobby doesn't have anything interesting in it

Again the money grab was a big step backwards and failed

The size of the band is largely a decision made by individual band members based upon their availability on that particular day and time.

(Point of reference: Earlier this season at a WBB game, the Cal Band had about 15 members in attendance up until halftime. After halftime, the band had actually doubled in size as more members arrived.)

Convert Haas to student housing.

All of these are good. I would add:

1. Less canned learfield type noise and more organic. Students, band, fans makin noise - not loudspeakers.
2. Fewer in game announcements, contests, distractions. Most people go to basketball games with a friend or two. its OK to let them talk to each other about what happened. It also encourages fans to meet others nearby.
3. Remove the learfield announcer. Its OK to have a Mic Man - but even that tradition needs some work. The announcer should be heard and not seen and should have a Cal background
4. On sparsely attended games, let people move down and pack the lower seats.
5. Improve the security bottle necks at the entrance.

1. Fix the student section
2. Improve the concessions
3. Add a few bar stands
4. Paint the gold walls inside blue, make the space feel more intimidating

More excellent suggestions! Especially regarding sound.

Especially with alumni bandmembers waiting to take up the slack (and with almost instant communication on social media, etc.) there was absolutely no valid reason to have games this season without the Straw Hat Band.

Reduce capacity to 5000-6000 and make the rest of the space premium seating, restaurants, games etc. Nothing like having a blowout game and being forced to watch it.

I refuse to do a deep dive on this topic, since I have provided ideas for many years, and nobody in the administration pays any attention. That said, who knows, maybe somebody heard me shouting about the jerseys in the rafters like a crazy person.

I'll just add one thing: fix the height of the effing TV cameras.

Change the damn television camera angle position. If it costs some seats, so be it.

Beer for sale at the concession stands! And oh yes, a team that can win occasionally!
calfanz

Students get in free.

Upgrade about 500 seats to be like the stadium club at CMS *free booze etc.

Get the students closer to the floor

Allow anyone under 16 coming with an adult free admission. (2 per adult)

Fix the TV angles.

Have a coach lead a cheer or give a quick pre game update.

Get friendly with the media. Spoil the **** out of them, so they are inclined to put out more about the Bears and more positive. Especially concentrate on Bay Area Media with a big online presence. Get on sports radio with promotions etc.

Have a DJ pre-game. (Before the band enters). All students that get there 30 minutes in advance get pizza or something similar.

They have had beer for sale at the concession stands on the first floor throughout the season. Not sure about those on the second floor.

Yes

Have the price of beers, in dollars, tied to the number of games we have won that season, beginning in December. (Only a current Cal fan would go for something like that.)

Instead of breathalyzing students, go full '70s and just be laissez-faire. Have a keg in the middle of the student section. Task lawyers who post on BI with handling the fallout.

Hell no. Change the seating configuration so students are right up front, give them tix for free at least for their first two years, fire the coach, hire a good one and build a practice facility.

As I've said before, the single biggest thing they can do is restore the sideline student section. In this pic, you can see the student section is continuous (no doors to the pointless room cutting it into thirds), and much deeper than now (maybe 8-10 rows, compared to 4 or 5? now).

It was a lot of fun being in that section, and the energy filled up The Haas:

Also see from these pics how the seats behind the basket went all the way down to the floor. Fans were a lot closer to the action and we impacted the game by distracting/intimidating players during free throws.

Now they are moved back with an arm rail between fans and the court. Why? To make it harder to storm the court???
