I felt horrible for the players moving on (like Joel Brown, who deserved better) watching the last few minutes of the game. But, as a 45+ year long fan, there is some peace in knowing that there are only two possible directions forward: a new beginning or utter destruction of the program if Fox is retained or an analog is hired as a replacement. With the former, I will continue to gain enjoyment from the journey; with the latter, I will have newfound free time on my hands and fewer things to explain to my wife (such as why I continue to watch).

I actually don't have any gut feeling which way it will go. Any reasonable administrator would have fired Fox after the UCD-UCSD double header loss to open the season. So all reason and logic are out the window.

Kudos to you. My word, I think Cal has finally beaten me down. I mean, it seems impossible for us to get back to the years where we were at least always on the brink of the dance. That seems way too far away from where we are now. The expectations are so darn low that I think the next coach will be that guy again who just gets us to mediocrity (potential NIT invite) after several years.

I will continue to follow the team's score and watch an occasional game on TV but no way am I entering Haas for a while.

I think that Knowlton is just laughing at all of us at this point. He knows that he put one over on Carol with the "there are more important things than winning" nonsense and came out of it with an absurd, undeserved and unprecedented contract extension. So now, he will only put in minimal effort while picking up his checks. I've have written to Carol indicating that there will be no further season tickets for me and definitely no donations as long as this regime is in place.

My Cal bball fandom is down to this. I haven't watched them all season. Today I turned on the game in the second half. Wazzu proceeded to go up by 20, shut it off. Admittedly I'm a football guy first. But i've always supported and watched Cal Bball..this season I was just like..naw I'm good for doing other things.

I'm totally a basketball guy first and I quit watching halfway through last season. Didn't attend any games for the first time in 40 years and didn't even have them on my calendar this year. I don't need that kind of aggravation in my life. Fire Fox, hire someone that doesn't have the same profile as Fox, and I'll be back happily even if the team doesn't make a huge jump from the start. Losing is one thing, bad coaching coupled with no hope for recruiting coupled with a nasty angry guy blaming his players for everything that goes wrong is another. If Fox stays they might as well just drop the program as far as I'm concerned.

I've been thinking about the next coach and expectations and I keep reminding myself of Campanelli. He took us from moribund to ending the streak, NIT and even our first NCAA birth since being runner up. He also energized Harmon and got ESPN to come do a night game there (which was extremely exciting at the time). He would walk campus during the day and engage students to come to Harmon. He and his staff went to high schools and handed out group tickets. He brought MIDNIGHT MADNESS to Harmon. Tshirts, hot dogs - but most of all FUN.

Now, I could do without the tantrums, Arthur Murray offense and sonny point guard. But, BOY do we need that type of energy and enthusiasm coming from our coaching staff.
