it pains me we couldn't even get into the Bubble conversation and the odds to win the Pac12 tournament was 500-1

but opening a thread to discuss the NCAA tournament

i liked UCLA to make the final four until 2 starters went down

they lost their best defender and starting center. they already were weak in the post and now i think it will cost them in the ncaa (see loss to AZ on the pac12 tournament

i dont think AZ has the guards. dont know why boogie transferred but he probably cost himself a final four if he was still playing for AZ, and his current ASU team has no shot

USC's best years are behind them

UCSB gets a baylor team with a limping frontline so who knows

Amir's team should be proud of making the ncaa but it will be a short dance

san diego state could have a nice run. im predicting them to the S16

I think Bona is expected back soon, maybe in time for first game. And they took a pretty darn good Arizona team to the brink without him. I love the experience they've got in Campbell and Jacquez. Super bummed they don't have Clark, but I've still got them winning the west regional (in LV) and then losing to Houston in Houston.

I'd love to see SDSU do well. It's a shame and a mystery how Oregon didn't get in. Not saying they deserved it, but they blew it. They've got so much talent. They could win at least a game or two in this tournament.

Picking the winner is more wide open than I ever remember.

Oregon VS North Carolina => Underachievers Trophy

(At least the Ducks accepted an NIT invite)

I thought ASU was an imposter (though I'm glad they're in for the conference). Without that crazy shot against Arizona they probably wouldn't be in.

Each of the last several years, Bobby Hurley has seemed to be on the hot seat, but he pulls out juuuuust enough wins to keep his job. It's kinda fascinating.

Hey, there's still a reason to watch games. We have the Dookies against Bearister's favorite former Cal player: Vanover.

UCLA starts out ahead 14-0. Probably not another Arizona faceplant.

besides the Princeton/AZ upset the best upset in the first day was Furman over Virginia

First, I thought it was a bad decision by their guard who was trapped (it was, he shouldn't have tried to make that pass) but then I read that Bennett had a timeout. In the post game he admitted that they should have called a timeout

amazing ending

Edey played well, but the rest of the Purdue squad couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. So many wide open shots, clanked.

This happens, AZ lost, SC lost today. It's been a great 1st round

Arizona State starting off down 15-4.

But up 44-37 at the half. Dropping 6 threes helps.

Lost by 2 in the last seconds.

I was really disappointed with what I saw of the ucsb game. I wasn't particularly impressed with their game, but I was especially disappointed in how ineffectual was Andre Kelly. Kelly almost seemed like he was hurt. I think he took one shot in the second half, and just seemed to be drifting out there and not very engaged. He even seemed to be in not as good shape as I remember he'd gotten into at Cal. I like Kelly, and that was disappointing to see. Hope he's ok.

Andre has been battling issues other than physical - its been a tough year for him. As earlier stated, Mrs Kelly has been Extremely appreciative of Joe P's influence on AK and also having a awareness of the situation. She has literally thanked him for saving her son's life. Basketball wise - He got in early foul trouble and did play passive, though He rebounded ok.

Thanks for that info. I wasn't aware he was having troubles, but it's crazy how you could almost see it just in how he looked on the court. As I said, I always liked AK and I hope he's well. Glad to hear JP has been a positive presence for him.

so 3 of 4 Pac12 teams exit in the first round

only ucla made it to the second round (and I said I thought ucla won't make it to the final four because of the injury of two starters)

I had heard of Fairleigh-Dickinson before -- wanna say they have even played at Harmon/Haas -- but it has taken me all day to figure out who "FDU" is. Okay, I'm slow that way... but it sounds vaguely inappropriate!

At some point in the 90s, FDU made the tournament and was abbreviated as "F. Dick." One of my buddies (this was in high school) thought this was amusing enough that he picked them to go all the way on his prediction ballot. This did not happen, but it was funny to see his sheet with "F DICK!!!" written all over it.
