They are great they were there when we had no cheerleaders. Are they Cal students? They look pretty young. I will donate.They were at every game and they are really good I am shocked that Cal does not give them anything.

Madsen needs to be aware that the band did not show up for alot of games last season. Someone needs to figure this out so he gets all the support he needs from the Spirit groups.

Their fund raising goal is incredibly modest ($1,000)! I just donated. It looks like I was the 8th or 9th donor.

Let's step up Bear Insiders! Student groups like this are fun and add a lot to Cal's campus life.

I do not think it's accurate to say that the Cal Straw Hat Band missed "a lot" of games last season. I was at every home game. The band missed a handful, due to conflicts and winter break. They missed a game the night of their annual banquet, and another that I believe was when the band had left town for a football game. Maybe a couple more that they missed. It is disappointing when the band isn't there, but they generally have good reasons. They're students, and they don't receive any credit or compensation for participating,and sometimes they have schedule conflicts.

One was the basketball game our highly paid but incompetent athletic department scheduled at the exact same time as the Big Game bonfire rally, which by tradition requires the Cal Band to be in full attendance.

I was at every home game. Many times when they showed up it was very small. As a band alumni I received countless request for the alumni band to perform because it was between quarters. So fo much of Dec and Jan there was a problem. The alumni band members I Know wont do it because we don't want to stand for two hours.one game 7 band members showed up with no trumpets.

When I was in the straw hat band it was-a privilege . If you committed you were expected to be at every game. . .The i live out of the area and went home between quarters did not happen . They did not join. The basketball schedule is published months in advance . Dont schedule the banquet on one of the two days when there is a game .

I understand the challenges. I understand Knowlton did not help.probably the horrible team influenced attendance. I am hopeful the band will figure out how to be at more games.
