Maybe this has been mentioned before, but isn't it ironic that Stanford grabbed former Cal Alum Troy Taylor for their new football coach, while Cal grabbed former Stanford Alum Mark Madsen for their new basketball coach?

Which of these new coaches has the best chance of success? Or did we break even here?

And what if Haase had been fired by Stanford and Cal had fired Wilcox, seeing that both of these coaches are also on the hot seat? That could still happen.

I think Taylor and Madsen are both good coaches and great guys that would have been more successful if they coached for their alma maters instead of their rivals.

Of the two, I think Taylor is in the tougher spot following a Stanford alum who took Stanford to multiple Rose Bowls and BCS games, whereas Madsen follows the coach that had the worst record in the country last year. Plus, basketball can turn around quickly with just a few players, football requires a lot more.

Madsen is more Cal than Taylor is Stanford.

Madsen born Walnut Creek and San Ramon Valley high.

Taylor born Downey (SoCal) and high school in Rancho Cordova (Sac).

For what it's worth. Since you asked.

Downey and Sacramento are just as much "California" as Danville. Danville is more "Stanford" than Downey.

Troy is a great Golden Bear.

Madsen is in the Stanford Hall of Fame.

A Mad Dog or a Troy? I'm betting on a Mad Dog.

Well, to be honest, these lines we draw between us dividing up who is an US and who is a THEM are really unproductive.

We are all humans.
We are all Americans.
We are all Californians.
We are all sports fans.
We are all Bay Area sports focused.

We.

Good luck to both guys, both programs.
Strive. Together.
