The Wallace thread had him pictured with Isaiah Thomas and it said he was a student so I looked it up. Here is a link to a letter written by his players after he was fired a FIU: LINK

Quote:

Please get in contact with the writers of a book Coach Thomas suggest that we read, "Out of Bounds, When Scholarship Athletes become Academic Scholars" by Dr. Jabari Mohair and Dr. Derek Van Rheenen from the UC Berkeley. Not only did Coach Thomas tell us about this book but on multiple occasions he brought these authors to FIU to lead academic workshops which stimulated our minds and helped us to understand what it is to be a true scholar athlete. These workshops were also attended by FIU faculty and students who were not athletes, even NBA All Star Amare Stoudemire sat in the workshops which lasted over a weekend. But more amazing is that not only did Coach Thomas and his staff participate in the workshops but Coach Thomas has led by example by taking classes in sports and education with the professors on Skype. He also was admitted into the MA program at UC Berkeley in the School of Education. He was not only telling us to go to class but served as a role model by being a student himself.

Sounds like it is the same program Theo is in? When recruits visit campus they can meet Cal students, students like Isaiah Thomas....

Great use of Thomas's enrollment at Cal.

He's in one of my classes. Very down to earth, and cool guy to talk to. I felt like an overly excited school girl around him tho...

Good for Thomas. I always thought that he was a whiny punk.

Fantastic that Issac is pursuing his MA. Don't know if he was whiny but he was a punk..from his days with the Pistons. He was much like Matt Barnes...a dirty player.

He was a dirty player. Hell, the whole team was. As dirty as he was, he was the first to complain about calls or non calls. He was constantly complaining.

I do not disagree with any of the negative comments about Thomas. Many more could be made about his time with the Knicks.

However, he apparently has done some good things around education more recently in advising young athletes of the importance of their college education.

So maybe he has done some healthy maturing. He is at Cal now and can possibly help with our recruiting. No need to vilify him for past shortcomings.

south bender, I've got to admit that your point of view is correct and well advised. It does nothing but help us now that he's on campus.... as long as he doesn't get caught groping any coeds.

He is a fellow Cal alum now.

It's Isiah Thomas. Isaiah Thomas is the former UW guard who now plays for the Sacramento Kings.

And that Isiah Thomas, what a great guy he is. Sorry, but him being at Cal isn't something that fills me with great feelings. Terrific smile, but looks can be deceiving.

Quote:

Knicks coach Isiah Thomas was a foulmouthed bully who went on tirades at a moment's notice, a Manhattan Federal Court jury was told yesterday in a day of raw testimony filled with obscenities and sexual slurs.

Fired Knicks exec Anucha Browne Sanders said Thomas repeatedly called her a "bitch" and "ho" in private conversations, but then suddenly declared he loved her after they played a game of basketball.

Dressed in a baby-blue suit jacket and dark slacks, and wearing simple pearl earrings, Browne Sanders said Thomas bristled at her efforts to get players to turn out for corporate events scheduled long before he took over the team in December 2003.

"Bitch, I don't give a f--k about the sponsors ..." Browne Sanders testified Thomas told her. "I don't give a f--k about ticket sales."

She also said Thomas rebuffed her March 2004 request that he sign renewal-request letters sent out to past season ticket holders with a pointed shot at loyal Knick fans.

"Bitch, I don't give a f--k about these white people," Browne Sanders said Thomas told her.

Browne Sanders, like Thomas an African-American, said she urged Thomas to give it a second thought, considering the Knick fan base.

Wow I never new Indiana and Pistons legend Isiah Thomas's name was spelled that way. Plus never liked him after he turned his back on Magic when he disclosed his HIV.

Also, IIRC he also called Magic gay. During his playing and coaching days he consistently demonstrated low character. Hopefully, a Cal education will help him.

The difference is timing: Tosh betrayed us and fell from grace. Isiah joined us and has achieved salvation. Especially if he can help our basketball program in any way (as a student, maybe he will be playing in pick up games at the RSF?).

I had the good fortune to attend the classic Pistons -Celtics playoff game where Bird stole Isiah's inbounds pass to Laimbeer, and fed DJ for the game winning lay up. There was great satisfaction in that. Especially in light of his later demeaning comments about Bird.

I was a Lakers season ticket holder for three years before departing for grad school in New York and watched the Lakers-Pistons Championship series from a sports bar on Broadway where the bartender was holding court with his girlfriend--Bill Laimbeer's sister! She was so obnoxious that I might have said or done something except that I suspect she used to kick Bill Laimbeer's ass growing up.

She was an Amazon, even looked a lot like Xena as I remember:

Only taller, buffer, obnoxious, and more tatoos.

Well, in Thomas' defense, and as the biggest Laker fan on this board, I can say this:

Thomas was probably right about Magic.

Anyone who thinks Magic contracted HIV from male-female sex only is kidding himself.
