I am confident that Mark Fox's brilliant and creative strategic mind can conquer the uncertainties of the evolving NIL landscape.

It's an administrative role in college athletics - he'd be lucky to make more than minimum wage.

If I'm Fox, I bow my head in shame, then retire to Maui, a few doors down from Don Nelson. being sure to have given my routing/account numbers to Knowlton, so he knows where to deposit my monthly six-figure checks.

Nelson: I never won an NBA Championship

Fox: I can top that, but first, where's that Maui Wowie?

The way things are going at Cal, he's going to pull a sonny dykes and kill it at Georgetown.

God help Georgetown competing in the NIL market now. I cannot believe this hire. The man does not like to deal with people, to answer to anyone...This is actually a worse position for him than coaching. I have so posted on the G'town board to this effect.

100% spot on! Literally our AD has said "He will not reach out to the donor's for support" I personally have asked Fox in the past, multiple times - "How can I help", "Do you need any financial support" and every time his response was either "No thanks, we are good" "No we are set for now". I remember asking him if He needed NIL monies to retain Andre Kelly and if so, I would step up along with another key supporter and He replied "Thank you, but I don't believe we need to go there yet and maybe not at all" He then said "there is no urgency to respond to Andre right now as He has up to 3 months to decide where He will be next season" 7 days later, Andre had moved on! This position that Georgetown has set up for Fox, also includes on court and off court relationships with the players. Crazy role for Fox, as the players across the past roster commented that they never developed a close relationship with him.

I sometimes wonder if the Office was fiction because no one can be as incompetent as Michael Scott.

Then I realize that Mark Fox remains employed and give a hat tip to PBS for a wonderous documentary about 21st century work/life balance.

College athletics, like football teams, lavish the top brass with obscene salaries while paying the majority of the workforce (directors, assistant directors, coordinators) ghoulish wages.

Michael Scott's character was a bit complex as he was a great salesman and his branch produced despite his managerial incompetence. Not comparable to Fox or Knowlton at all imo.

Agreed. Michael Scott is good hearted and wants people to like him which people generally do (which is more like Madsen in personality). Fox is more like when Dwight would take over in Michael's absence. He was a petty dictator and everyone was miserable.

Yes, he showed his bona fides in the Chili's lunch with Tim Meadows, one of the funniest ever. Also how he negotiated with David Wallace (horrible negotiator but overall also a good executive lol) to get his and his friends jobs back lol.

Also, when he left Jim called him the best boss ever. It just shows you don't have to grind and be elite all the time to be a good boss. You do have to care about those you work with and who work for you. But Knowlton just seems like an empty vessel.

I have it from a credible source that he is working on an NFT to commemorate Cal's record tying 16 consecutive losses.

How about Fox's record breaking total losses? Record breaking PAC-12 losses? record breaking home losses? Zero road wins against anybody? And his accomplishments of having the worst record in the entire country and lowest scoring team in the entire country? A first for a P5 team? Just in time for conference realignment?

3-30

When you lose 30 games in your 4th year, many to D2 teams, why does it matter how many of those 30 losses were consecutive? I'm sure Fox is thankful he scheduled a home game against UT Arlington midseason so he would not own the consecutive loss record outright.

That's disgusting.

Next hire, let's put in a clause that mandates the coaches refund their money.

This is proof positive that what we perceive as reality is just some wacko fifth dimensional satire being performed by and for the benefit of beings we can't comprehend. No other explanation possible.

There has never been a guy in the history of the world who was less "all in" on NIL than Mark Fox. I was actually told by some donors I'd gotten to agree to give to California Legends that they reneged because he told them NOT TO donate. They subsequently came back (and donated) when Madsen was hired.

Completely and utterly baffling.

I'd made a promise to myself to never comment on Fox again, but I'm breaking it now. I think Fox did everything possible to get fired and trigger the buy-out. The total $ value of his contract should provide a comfortable retirement for any reasonable person, particularly if he planned to take any half-baked job to provide healthcare insurance, etc until eligible for Medicare. My evidence:

  • Produces a horrific record
  • Makes no effort to engage local media to enhance Cal's profile.
  • Repeatedly drives the best players off the team
  • Refuses to engage alumni donors
  • Actively submarines Cal's NIL efforts that could benefit the team

Fox wasn't completely incompetent. Incompetent employees try, but don't succeed. Fox chose to not perform parts of his job, basically daring Knowlton to fire him and pay the buy-out.

Fox in the words of our AD "had checked out" this past season since "He knew he was getting fired" Aaaah AD that is your responsibility to ensure the HC and staff are putting in the time/effort and follow up with the players. W/O going into the incredibly disappointing examples of the players 'checking out as well", lets leave it that the players had also thrown in the towel. The prior staff had No clue to what the players were doing and not doing. Fortunately, that is in the past and the current staff along with Coach Madsen are intimately aware of all the players schedules, living arrangements, nutrition intake and team chemistry building. Its very refreshing and encouraging to know that this staff is truly on top of each player's daily life/responsibilities etc.
