Focusing on Cal Basketball specifically, I think we can be look at these developments as a big improvement. With all of national attention that Duke and North Carolina get, MM can now offer west coast recruits a chance to be in the mix with these teams. Also, much better chance that Madsen sticks around for a long time. Go Bears!

Yep, this is a sneaky understated story in the Cal/realignment dialogue. I am stoked for our basketball future the next few years!

I'm quite excited about it for all those reasons. Football drove this mess but as a hoops fan I think we landed in a good spot.

Yes, ACC profile is elite for hoops. It will so fun to see some of the schools roll into Haas.

Downside is no more Pac-12 tournament in Vegas. Somehow I don't see a lot of Cal fans going to Atlanta, Greensboro, etc. for the ACC tournament, unless we have a real chance to win it. It would be cool to see Cal play Duke at Cameron Indoor, or NC at the Dean Dome, if you could get a ticket. Seeing them against Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse a few years back was cool.

The other thing that does me good is I will not have to listen to Arizona basketball fans unless in a random situation. I have enjoyed the tournament in Vegas - except the Arizona fan base. I'm sure many of you feel the same.

Awesome recruiting one-up vs. UCLA!
I think Duke/UNC/Wake/UVA/'Cuse/Louisville/ND
superior to
Indiana/UCLA/OSU/UM/MSU/Purdue

well, I for one don't have any fond memories of CAL kicking ass in the Pac 12 tourney - since we never did.
Good riddance.
and F*&$#ck vegas anyway- they can stuff the pro sports teams they are taking from our area up their ass.

Maybe the ACC tournament will end up at or near SMU. Either way IMHO better than Vegas.

I think a lot of Cal fans will relish going to the ACC Tournament.

Yes. Horrible when they start chanting U OF A, U OF A over and over.
And yet I remember when we played Virginia here and same thing. UVA UVA UVA

We have a lot of Cal alums on the East Coast, so I could see having a good contingent of our fans at conference road games and the ACC tournament.

The downside is that it could hurt our recruiting the LA kids unless we continue to play UCLA OOC.

OK, I know we're 14 months plus away from the first ACC game, but what are the guesses on where we'll land in the conference standings at the end of the '24-25 season? Assume we're in a 9-team division. It could be a tough first couple years… but I'm going to say Mad Dog gets us to .500 or a little better this year, then we land 6th or 7th in the ACC west. How long before we're competitive (if ever) for a division championship.

This is where being in the ACC is an advantage. If you are a Top player in Southern California, your choice is UCLA and USC playing in the B1G and the Midwest, versus representing California in the ACC. There will be kids who prefer playing in the ACC. I think we should schedule UCLA, but if we need games in SoCal play Long Beach State.

We have tons of alums on the east coast and can represent. Conference tourneys aren't usually about fans though until the semis and finals. And with the ACC it may take like 5-6 games to get there lol.

We could actually create a Ex-pac-10 tourney for the pre-season right here in the bay area. Like the ACC-B10 challenge. We use to do that for the Newell Preseason tourney.
