Based on the various ratings out there as of now, only Oregon State.

So there's a chance?

.500 in conference seems like an aspirational goal for us...

(had been hoping for better, but when was the last time we even did that?)

Let's go the other way.
Teams that over match us. Arizona, Colorado, Utah and now a recent problem, Washington.

The others I'm not ready to concede. Surprised nobody mentioned we can play with Furd (I know by itself this is non conclusive, but they did lose to Northern Iowa by 22.)

There is also the home and away factor. If there are 3 teams that go 2-0 against us and we split with the rest that is 8-14. What we need are bottom dwelling wankers that we can sweep. We need road wins. OSU and? Stanford?

Just for fun these are the Kenpom ratings:

Arizona: 2
Colorado: 24
Utah: 30
USC: 43
Washington: 48
Oregon: 56
WSU: 66
UCLA: 78
Stanford: 93
ASU: 121
Cal: 163
OSU: 207

As to which games Cal COULD win, Arizona seems unlikely, but who knows about the rest. There is real talent, unlike the Fox era. The coaching has been very problematic, but hopefully it will get better. If Cal would just defend the three point line rather than mindlessly trapping, I think it would solve half the difficulties the team has had.

I won't miss Utah.

They came into the conference and just owned everyone in the revenue sports.

We never should have added them.

You got that right. What a disaster. Altitude, good players and Montgomerys hero Larry K kicked our ass

To my eye, the team had horrible body language in the 2nd half against ucsd. Not a lot of fire and will there.
That concerns me. Butler they competed their a**** off. I hope they get more consistently motivated during the conference season!!

8 wins in conference would show improvement. Is it enough? 10-10 is more palatable. If we dont beat Asu, we are digging a hole.

Win totals
Probable - 4-5
Reachable - 6-7
Aspirational - 8-9
Wait 'til next year - 10

I'm more of a "keep the bar low, be surprised when the team jumps much higher" kind of guy. Even 8 wins seems like a pipe dream given their inconsistent play so far.
I agree that if the perimeter D on threes doesn't improve dramatically we are in for some punishing blowouts.

Missing Utah (even though it's a home game) helps us. Missing Oregon State (even though it's on the road) hurts us. Eight wins would be an acomplishment but who knows? Prime example is the recent UCSD game Granted, not a great opponent, but do we see more of the 34-8 start team in the first half, or the inept team that played the middle twenty minutes? I know, probably somewhere in the middle, just hoping with each game we get a bit closer to the efficient end.
