The ACC could let FSU go and give their revenue share to Cal and Stanford.

Yeah, and what about all that buy out money that FSU would have to come up with to extricate themselves from the ACC?

I'm sure SMU and the rest of the ACC would be totally cool with that.

Dunno what FSU really wants. Too late not to add Cal and Stanford and SMU, are they trying to jump to the Big Ten? They must be the ACC's USC. If they go then good riddance.

I am loving the nature of most of the teams in our new conference. We seem to have teams with very good academics coupled with reasonably good athletics. FSU and Clemson may be the exceptions but also seem to be the SEC/B10 wannabes. BC, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, GTech, UVa, and then add 'furd and Cal....Yes, there are exceptions but the athletic/academic parity is a lot closer than the old Pac12. UW, UCLA, USC were good, but UA, ASU, WSU, OSU, CU and I don't know that much about UU.

The problem is that if they get to leave on favorable terms, there are several other teams (e.g. Miami, Clemson, UNC) that will want to leave the same way causing our new conference to collapse. The reckoning soon as usc and UCLA bolted is much faster than I think we can turn our around our program (and by program, I mean our admin).

You could be right but if UNC stayed the remaining teams would have the academic connection mentioned by OdontoBear66.

I would love that league as an academic/athletic fit aside the travel problems.

In a word, MONEY. FSU believes they are worth more than other schools in the conference and would like to see an unbalance distribution model that would pay them a sizable bonus. In all likelihood, Clemson also sees itself as disproportionally valuable. In the end, that's what is driving all the realignment frenzy, schools like FSU, Texas, OK, USC et al self-perceiving an outsize market value relative to their peers. So they'll keep plating this version of musical conferences, eliminating weak sisters and regrouping until we end up with the predicted pair of 24 team super-leagues.

Bet there aren't enough teams for 2x24 leagues. 2x16, maybe.

And there will be two levels of feeder/relegation leagues.

Many of the top schools are acting like a business and maximizing their revenue

Some stronger schools within conferences are demanding higher shares of the conference revenues

Texas and OK were the first, and USC was right behind them
FSU and Clemson saw this and demanded the same
When will Michigan and OSU demand more than Maryland?
When will Alabama and Georgia demand more than Vanderbilt?
Maybe the SEC and B1G will start kicking out their weaker schools

"every school for themselves" will ultimately eliminate all but the strongest and most successful, just like in business (unless you're in a niche)

that is what unchecked capitalism results in when there are no counter-balance rules, and college FB and BB are unchecked because the NCAA has no rules it can enforce

I admit I'm intrigued by this prospect though I suspect I'll not live to see it. And you may be right about the ultimate number of teams that make it to top tier leagues but the dual structure of all major pro sports in this country seems a pretty obvious carryover to the revenue sports at the college level.

Sooner rather than later, I hope. The online drama/whining will be more entertaining than the games that result.

Well, FSU just lost 63 - 3 to Georgia in the Orange Bowl. How could the ACC have let them in?
