Five out?

A lineup of Cone, Kennedy, Celestine, Tyson and Newell would be interesting. Swap in Brown at times. All five would have to be guarded at the three point line. There would be lots of open lanes for drives and cuts. Newell is big enough to guard most 5s. The defensive rebounding would not be great, but this team cannot have everything. So why not?

You could also swap Larson for Newell.

Yes, he can also shoot.

I like 5 out. Our women often play that way but adding Michelle really helps the rebounding at both ends.

Five out requires passing ability, which no one on Cal demonstrates. Also, five out is easier to defend than motion. Cal should run (run. not float) through a motion offense and even Princeton. Last night in the first half, no passes were made because no one was open, and no one moved to get open. Movement evens the odds against talent.

My thought on five out is that it opens up driving lanes. The offense should be built around driving and shooting, since the passing is so poor. Motion, which I think they are running, requires passing. I see guys making good cuts and being missed.
