For ASU the upstairs was closed. It was kind of depressing -- no cheer, dance, Oski or any students to speak of really. 7 alumni straw hat band members; some songs were harmony only. And then the horrible result. But it's always fun to go see our Bears no matter what.

At the Arizona game the upstairs concession line was super long...I was thinking they would have sold a lot more concessions if they could add more capacity or get the line moving more quickly somehow.

Students out of town. Holiday break. New Year's Eve. And upstairs wasn't closed, if you mean seating on the top level where the nosebleeds are. Concession stands up there have been closed all season. Not enough fans. Whaddya expect after the Fox era? 3-29. It will take time and wins to bring folks back.

I found milky shakes to be a huge problem in New Zealand. Their restaurant or dairy associations should visit Fentons.

Had the cheesesteak, actually not bad taste-wise, but 17 bucks for something with no fixings is a bit much. You get the same thing a few blocks away for $13, with fixings. Considering what the menu was before the I.B. addition, literally anything is an improvement. Had a pretzel there once that must have been recycled from the last game, nearly broke a tooth!

So to night we are bringing a sandwich from Lunardis to split which cost $12.00 and is very good . We go to the club room and I noticed other people there doing that when they dont have enhanced food. I have the money but paying $45for two sandwiches and two drinks seems ridiculous.

I read that restaurant business is down. I wonder what young people are doing. Do you go out a lot and pay these prices? Seems like most order to go and pay all the surcharges. We went to Stella Osteria in Burlingame a few weeks ago and the bill was $175.00. We split a salad, two entrees, two deserts and brought a half bottle of wine which cost $25. Corkage.The salad was not great. The rest was good. Service was poor. Not likely to return.

My guess is housing greed is driving all these other prices. What do you think? I have always felt the restaurant business was a bad business. Now for sure.

It's truly amazing, for a *relatively* modern building, how poorly Haas Pavilion is designed. It was built just a few years before I got to Cal and it seemed old and bad even then, at just a couple years old. It seems ancient now - narrow halls, small concession areas and very few of them. There are two down there, and they are back to back with a shared kitchen area between them. And here's my gripe:

I went to the Arizona game with my kids. The signage at the concession stands is not great. I glanced and saw a few snack items abut didn't bother to check the entire sign to see what was and was not available (but a few weeks prior we had gotten popcorn at the other stand).

We waited in line for quite a while. We got to the front and I order a popcorn and some drinks. Sorry, no popcorn. Food is only served at the other stand. What? They had peanuts and candy, at least, so that's not really accurate. But no popcorn. Why not? The two stands are literally back to back and have a shared kitchen! Just bring some popcorn over here.

I peek around the corner and the line on the other stand is around the corner. So we skip the popcorn. It's just beyond stupid.

You have to remember that Haas was not a teardown, but was actually built in the same footprint as the original gym, essentially by putting a new shell around the previous building and extending it upward to provide the additional seating capacity. I think the downstairs hallways may be the ones from the original gym. I think the lobby is definitely the one from the old building. The narrow hallways do create a problem with concessions.

My seats in Haas are basically in the same location as they were at Harmon, the difference being that in Harmon, those seats were two rows from the top of the building, and now they're about 20 rows down. It is a problem that the upstairs concession stands are not being used. Basically, I gave up on the food at the gym long ago, which is why I go to TD first.

Haas Pavillion is definitely not State of the Art, but based on many aspects of Cal Basketball that can be complained about, I think this one falls way down the list.

My only complaint which is shared by many, is how the seats have been adjusted over the years to gradually move away from its original purpose, of replicating a Harmon Gym atmosphere.

Saag sausage yes. The buns, I don't think so. The mustard, kraut and relish, yes. But I don't put a pot in my clear Cal bag to heat up the kraut while I'm at the game. Nor a grill to cook the dogs and toast the buns, but it would be fun to set that up in the nosebleeds where I sit. Not many other fans there so I could do it as long as I had a big enough clear plastic bag to hold the pot and the grill. Also, when I go to Top Dog I can buy just two dogs instead of a whole package at the grocery store.
And as stated above, it ain't garbage.
I did enjoy the dogs last night. And the game itself. Up to a certain moment!

I think they may open more concession stands when they get more fans. Win more games, get more fans, though that could take a few years. BTW, where is this $17.50 cheesesteak someone mentioned. I didn't see it on the concession stand sign. Maybe it's in the club section bar area where I don't go?

My friend just prepares dogs at home and brings them to the game. I prefer Top Dog for the atmosphere.
