Whoops, didn't mean to post this both in the thread and as its own topic! Was having some wifi issues so this was a delayed post.
Do people think we have a shot at the NIT?
You can't get in to the NIT with a sub .500 record, can you? I think it will be tough to get to .500.
Proud attendee here at Cal's last NIT appearance which was at Haas in front of at least 1200 rabid fans. Cal State Bakersfield whipped us.
Ivan was on the bench in street clothes in order to preserve his NBA draft status, which unknown to him at that time, had already been tanked by sticking around an extra year in a rudderless program. The coaching staff drank 10 cases of Fiji water and Cuonzo caught his cab to the Oakland airport for his flight to Missouri with 4 minutes left in the game, leaving in his wake the next HC on the bench and a basketball program in ruins for years to come.
Still referencing that meaningless game as having some special meaning? Cuonzo did his radio postgame show that night (ended it with "Go Bears."). Did he do it from the taxi?
You were really at that game? You used to be in section 10, right? Because I was actually there in 10 and there weren't too many others around me. One of my buddies and a lot of empty space.
Yes, I thought that NIT game had a special meaning because it bookmarked the starting point of the New Dark Age of Cal Basketball which continued from that day until they hired Madsen, who has brought the first light.
Yes, I was exaggerating about Cuonzo, he was there the whole game and post game…..but he was totally checked out of that game and mentally at his new gig in Missouri. He should not have accepted the NIT invitation. He humiliated the university and his team.
I also exaggerated about the Fiji water consumption, they only drank 6 cases.
Yes, I have tickets in Section 10, and yes, my wife and I were in attendance. I don't know the number in attendance for that game but it was embarrassing.
I have always felt bad for Ivan Rabb for being a loyal Bear and coming back a for a 2nd season. It appears the NBA scouts overrated him after his freshman year (maybe Jaylen Brown aided that) and by all accounts he was going to go high in the draft. He screwed himself playing under Coach Martin's tutelage a second year and his draft value cratered.
I'm picking the Bears today. Post a photo of the scoreboard showing Bears Win! I need a new one.
