*Ok ChatGPT guys, when was the last time Cal had 6 players in double figures?
I gave it a go, but no answer...yet.

I'll try again tomorrow.<+>right now I'm too blown away by the win.

I'm especially happy for guys like eastcoast who finally get to experience what Cal basketball is all about....Enjoy it while it lasts....it can be fleeting with Knowlton and crew holding the reins....

All five starters and our sixth man in double figures! Jalen Celestine and Grant Newell are semi-surprise players of the game! Supporting cast will gain confidence, having won a big game with Tyson out late!

New fans come out to the Haas and will return home happy! Big win for the Mad Dog program!!!

Nope, I caved, lost faith and exercised the revocation clause. I did not think Bears would win once Tyson pulled up lame.

Here's the official Pac-12 highlight video:

On my personal Facebook page I saw a "Memories" post on my feed, with a picture I posted from the Stanford at Cal game exactly four years ago today. That was such an emotional roller coaster of a day; I remember being at Haas that day for the women's/men's doubleheader, learning about the death of Kobe Bryant as the women's game was going on, and listening to NPR's All Things Considered on my phone while seated at Haas. Similar to tonight, Cal won that game at the buzzer after denying Stanford in the paint albeit by a much more defensive oriented 52-50 score where Cal won despite shooting only 33%.

The highlight video on that day (unfortunately not including the moment when the refs waved off that last Stanford layup):

Back on topic, Madsen is already showing this is a much different team that the last regime, enough that I might consider attending another game (even though I live in a different county now than in 2019-20).

What a win! Celestine and Newell stepped up BIG TIME! What's even better is we won in front of a packed Haas!

Does anyone have video of the last 7 seconds? Did Celestine block the shot?

He makes them in the first half of games but as he tires starts missing in the second half,n especially late in games. He is still the best center we have had in a long time. Unlike Lars, he has good post moves

We were ahead 64-60 then went 0-3 from the line while Stanford went 6-6. I thought we had no hope after that.

The box score does not credit Celestine for a block. The video (2:52 below) does indicate Aimaq did disrupt the shooter and force him to try a harder, up-and-under shot that deflected off the backboard. That hard deflection makes it look like a block.

The entire south end of Haas was 100% jam packed with students, from the court to the very last row, and even the corners.

During timeouts, I often found my gaze heading to that south direction, aghast at what a glorious sight it was.

I truly think the crowd willed us to the win tonight. We play this same game in Maples, I suspect there might be a different result.

Thanks for that. I didn't realize how close that last shot after the rebound came to going in, though it looked like it was a tenth of a second late anyway.

What a crazy three game homestand.

Game 1: lose to Washington on a buzzer beater.

Game 2: Wash St. buzzer beater to tie, but win in OT.

Game 3: Dodge third buzzzer beater in a row to beat Stanfurd.

Hard to remember a three game stretch quite like that.

Just a few thoughts

- Tyson is such a warrior. Guy has so much determination and passion

- Kennedy battling thru off ball screens chasing around Carlyle. Forced him into a lot of bad shots in the 2H

- Newell had a rough defensive stretch for a bit. But he regrouped and made some ballsy plays down the stretch. Love to see him play with better mental toughness

- Celestine taking over once Tyson went down. Love seeing him play with more aggression

- Jaydn Ott walking around Haas like the mayor of Berkeley

- madsen looks so good in the blue and gold tie

- I'm so happy eastcoastcal got a taste of what haas used to be like

- genZ confused on how to storm the court after beating your rival in the last seconds of the game. Maybe shocky can give a decal class

Playing that video in slow motion their PG clearly took 3 steps and maybe even 4 steps and the second shot didn't get off in time

Real time I couldn't tell

Fantastic win and fan support. Celestine carried the team in the second half. He's gotta get more involved. Cone needs to dial it down. Those two changes alone would really benefit the team. We are kind of lucky stanfurd shooting went cold though. They're a really good team. After watching this game, I'm convinced Madsen can do wonders here.

The worst thing about the call is that unless on replay you see an obvious mistake the play on the field/court stands. The refs went at this in twos for minutes and could not determine if he invaded the cone of silence, and then had to get together probably to get their story straight. My point, if it takes that long, it is not apparent on replay so discard replay and go with the call on the field. My impression last night was every ticky tacky call went against us, but then you often feel that way in games.

I wil admit I don't understand the cone/cylinder thingy as it puts the D at a decided disadvantage. For example, offensive player on the wing, facing the basket, but the pass is behind hm so he keeps his feet and torques his body around to catch teh pass of his left shoulder. Of course, any defender worth his salt is gonna reach out and try to deflect or steal the pass. By rule, that defender just entered the cone/cylinder even if he never touches the offensive player, So, when the offensive player catches the ball and rotates his torso back towards the basket, and initiates contact, that's a defensive foul?

IMO, they took so long last night they clearly had no convincing evidence of a foul on either player. Should have just waved off the whistle, returned the ball to Stanford and 'play on'.

too be fair, if you watched Cal's last 3 breakaways, the shooter took plenty of steps towards teh layup. (Looked like they were 'enforcing' NBA rules for traveling.)

I thought for sure they were just going to award possession to Stanford, and I was going to be annoyed at that. When they changed it from offensive to defensive foul, I was like "of course this is what they're going to do"... it was just so fittingly Pac12 officiating.

Still have the excited vibe this morning - Thanks Ducky for a great recap. Energy was amazing and Madsen is such a positive force. Players really enjoy playing for him. Off season is huge for the staff to rebuild and keep the improvement coming. His effort and round the clock commitment will produce the program results, we all hope for.
