Without a new practice facility, and Mark Madsen starts winning, he will be gone. Maybe a new chancellor will make the difference and save the day. All about fund raising.
No question NIL fund raising is #1 and #2 in importance. However Coach Madsen is all in (and pushing hard) for a new (and dedicated facility) to be built. He has clearly stated w/o a dedicated practice facility, the program is at a huge disadvantage recruiting. Cal is one of just 5 D1 programs to not have a dedicated facility. While its not mentioned - several times Haas has been booked/not available and RSF has been used. Even off site practices have been set up due to scheduling conflicts in the past.

Of the 351 D1 basketball schools, which are the 4 other programs that we are saying do not have dedicated practice facilities?

Sac State has to be one of them. They play in a 1000 seat 1951 gym although they are converting part of their "RSF" facility called the WELL into a new gym for the Hornets to play in with more seats for spectators (have not heard of how many more seats) which will cost $5m.

matt, the cal athletic department is heading towards an existential financial iceberg, nobody gives a **** about men's lacrosse or the majority of the olympic sports except knowlton

solution: fundraise the $ from former lacrosse alums & remain a financially independent club sport

money does not grow on trees#
Shocky1, did you actually read trueblue's post? It says they do raise money and are self-supporting. The program doesn't cost the Athletic Department anything. They actually receive money from the Lacrosse team for administrative overhead. I have no problem with Cal having no cost club teams.
sunriver, the complaint states they wanna use memorial stadium, these irrelevant to most fans teams utilize major facilities & then the football team is practicing at bay meadows or something

potentially displacing the football team is not a "no cost club team"

and that's why the basketball team can't always practice as haas pavilion which is truly mind boggling & it's also why the dedicated basketball practice facility is never gonna get built during the knowlton era...his latest artist rendering included a 3 story facility that housed men's basketball on the 1st floor, women's basketball on the 2nd floor & olympic sports on the 3rd floor...literally nobody on planet earth is gonna donate a dollar to pay for this $200,000,000+ con artist shell game

look matt seems like a good guy but there's limited practice facilities on campus & they need to be 100% prioritized for the revenue sports, not a club sport or olympic teams that got a near zero fanbase

save cal football & basketball (the only revenue drivers)#
