Wow ... and to think that Jason Kidd and Lamond Murray could have been on this team too

Cal looks well-coached.

The team had a lot of individual talent and offensive firepower, Gray, Fowlkes, Shareef... Bozeman was exposed in the first round of the NCAA tournament, same as in 94, that kind of talent should have had a deeper run.

Nice retrospective from 2020 about Ed Gray here:

Cal Basketball: On His 45th Birthday, We Relive Ed Gray's 48-Point Outburst vs. WSU
The nation's No. 2 scorer in 1997, Gray set Cal's school record in just 25 minutes

Small nitpick, but Murray would have graduated after the 94-95 season had he stayed for his senior year.

I loved Gray. One of my favorite players. Unstoppable at times. I wish Fowlkes had stayed. I swear that guy could leap like superman.

That team barely made the NCAAs.
And in that one and done, Iowa State just surrounded Shareef and dared anyone else to score. Bozeman even played Gardner who had had his minutes reduced prior to the tournament.
Looked back at the box score and Shareef only had 6 shots! His only make was a three pointer. Fowlkes did score 26 but no one else was in double figures.
Oh, and in 13 minutes, Gardner had 1 assist, 4 fouls and 5 turnovers - to lead the Bears in turnovers.
Only Fowlkes and Shareef attempted free throws, which also speaks volumes about the game play.
