Transferred to Cal State East Bay in Hayward. Sat out a year, then played there the past two seasons. In this just concluded season, he averaged 15+ ppg, almost 7 rpg and almost 3 apg and made all-conference (smaller California schools such as Chico State).

Alajiki, Marsalis Robertson (out for the season), Jarred Hyder. I took a quick peek and let's just say they all put up similar or worse stats on mediocre to awful (Cal Poly where Hyder is must be one of the worst D1 teams in the nation) mid-majors. I think we kept the two Fox holdovers who can meaningfully contribute to a power conference team (Celestine, Newell).

Vanover never achieved the potential that was so obvious in his final ten-or-so games as a true freshman at Cal. The progress he had made that season, starting out in October by barely being able to get up and down the court a few times, was incredible. There was a synergy there, with a young man from Arkansas discovering his true self in a place like Berkeley, where he could feel free to experiment with three-point shots and maybe just as many new hairstyles.

Oh, what might have been.,, and yet, even though a return to his native state wasn't what the Hoop Doctor ordered, neither would playing for Mark Fox have helped his game, so perhaps it wasn't meant to be.

I'm guessing that, if he wants, he will be able to play oversees somewhere, where his height (and maybe his hair?) should be able to sell some tickets.
