He did not play at Baylor. He committed to Baylor out of JC in November. Injured most of his sophomore season but averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks as a freshman.
Right now we can use any big.SpensBlack87 said:BREAKING: One of the best bigs in the country has reopened his recruitment after signing with Baylor last fall.

This guy took a visit to Cal and was impressed before he committed to Baylor. We can sure use a big like this!

At this point anyone who's breathing and 7 feet tall we have to take him, we're not going with Dort as starting center.
I can't help but feel that these players and their BS X-posts declaring their daily "Top ## lists of schools" are just toying with programs, squeezing NIL money out of schools as if they were NBA free agents shopping around.
I want athletes who see the difference between a Cal education and a Kentucky education, I don't want athletes who treat our school like a deep-pockets franchise that has to come to them on bended knee.
We can get to the tournament without selling out.

Are our only bigs Dort and Curtis?

This is the difference between historic Cal and every other big time program. 7' is a forward. Centers are taller. But here, we call anything 6'9" and above a center. That needs to change starting right now.

Kentucky basketball is actively pursuing transfer guard Elijah Hawkins from Minnesota and has shown interest in All Big East guard Kadary Richmond from the Hall. Cats r also in the mix for five-star Class of 2025 star AJ Dybantsa and has been in contact with JUCO transfer Noah…

What college team has a 7' player that is not a center?
Current roster is more athletic, deeper, and should have more balanced scoring and better team defense. I think the new personnel will be a much better fit for Madsen's approach, and I expect overall better consistency (which was a huge problem last year). We'll add a solid big to compete with Dort (maybe Mady Sissoko), but I'd be surprised if we added another marquee guy. I'm excited to see what this roster does in the ACC - Madsen has done a very good job assembling a really interesting team.bearsandgiants said:
Thinking about last year, even being short a "big man" feel like this curent roster now looks better on paper than last year's roster (assuming full health for both squads). Any thoughts on how they compare? Off paper, I feel like this current squad is going to be far more selfless so even with a slight handicap in talent, they will probably more than make up for it in heart and hustle. But if we're already ahead of the game in terms of talent, this could be an extraordinary ACC debut season. Even if we can't land that elusive "center."

Got our big man! Mady Sissoko just graduated from Michigan State this past week, so he held off on the announcement. Expect one very soon. https://t.co/ena8YrIGr2 pic.twitter.com/dP1yJjgumW

Agree. The defense should be much improved. Tough watching how many non-defenders we had out there last year.DaveT said:Current roster is more athletic, deeper, and should have more balanced scoring and better team defense. Potential weak spot is not having a clear go-to-guy who can manufacture a bucket at will like Tyson, or Daws in some match-ups. I can see Stojakovic being used like Crabbe where you run plays for him off-ball and let him attack closeouts.
We'll see how well Madsen can get players to buy into playing a team game on offense. If Monty had this roster it would be a tourney team.

Not dumb at all. Spot on, we need someone to distribute. PG Christian Tucker (UTSA portal transfer) is supposed to be that guy.socaltownie said:
So dumb dumb question (RL has severely cut into my Cal obsession). Who is going to play PG? I think last years early season showed we need someone - the "everyone is a PG" NBA style isn't that effective in the college game (probably because of how highly skilled every NBA player is in, when need be, manufacturing their own shot).
An interior scoring threat is the missing piece.KoreAmBear said:Don't we have one more scholly open?Johnfox said:Got our big man! Do we want to use for Mongolian Mike, Mahaney or another big?
Have to think MM's plan is for Tucker to be the primary point guard, and gradually give Wilkinson some backup minutes so that if he shows the ability to play, by next year as a sophomore he will have some seasoning.DaveT said:Not dumb at all. It is 2024, you need elite guard play to win big in basketball.barsad said:
Already looking forward to the announcer's call after a dunk… Sisssssss-ooooooo-koooooooooooo!
I would vote for a 2nd big rather than a point guard, Tucker will carry us there and we have options if he's out. I'd like size and tough defense in the ACC, a focus on quickness and passing won't win us many games in that conference.
