Hey guys,

So I currently live in Singapore, and I organize a lot of the Cal game viewing parties for the Berkeley Club of Singapore here (since I'm basically their token Cal superfan haha).

Anyways, Coach Madsen reached out with an interest in meeting Cal basketball fans out here before his other stops in Asia, and after some back and forth we nailed down the date/time/place!

I know chances are small any of you reading this are/will be in Singapore at this time, but just in case, thought I would just throw the info out there in case any of you Bears are and would like to join!

*All times/dates SGT*

Event: Meet Coach Madsen!

Date: Monday, June 10th, 2024

Time: 630pm SGT

Location:
Vatos City House
https://vatossg.com/
36 Robinson Road #01-01 City House Singapore 068877

BTW, Vatos City House is also Cal alum owned so if you're ever in Singapore for any other reason, you should definitely try them out as well! Great Korean-Mexican fusion fare and beers!

What are Madsen's other stops in Asia? What is the purpose of his trip? Recruiting?

Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea per his recent Tweet. As far as why, seems like it's just to spread Cal basketball awareness and engage with the fan bases out there.

Cool. I was in Korea just last week and am there regularly for business. Hopefully one of my trips matches up with his visit because it would be great to meet some Cal grads in Korea.

Korean-Mexican fusion fare in S'pore? Whoa! I'd need a cast iron stomach (and esophagus) for having a fusion meal of those two cultures together.

The two hottest, spiciest, items I ever ate (not at the same time) were (1) a homemade kim chee soup, which my Korean girlfriend slow-cooked for over 8 hours (the sweat was pouring off my face and chest the entire meal - I had to take off my shirt and my tee shirt to keep cool while eating. I must have lost 5 lbs during the meal. She had a very hot temper, and we finally broke up. I then ate American food for a month, and then really began to miss that Kim Chee soup.

(2) Mexican girlfriend in Rosarito Beach used to eat those very small green chili peppers. She ate them raw, for breakfast. That was the hottest raw chili pepper I ever tasted, probably the hottest thing I ever ate, period. I could not keep up with her. I miss her too. Hot peppers are addictive.

That is great what you are doing in Singapore. When I saw Coach Madsen is coming to Hong Kong in another thread I reached out to a Cal Alumni group on Facebook based in HK, but so far I haven't heard anything back from them. If you have any details about the HK event I would appreciate any information. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I do not have any information about Coach Madsen's trips to the other countries, only that he is planning to go. However, I believe Singapore will be his first stop, so maybe I can ask him about them when he's here and update this thread later on with any details.

Soooooo.
Cal Basketball Camp is that week. June 10-13
Marketed as "coaches and players"
I get that we have a team to manage but these are 7 year old kids. And I'm curious who will be at the camp now? Clearly not any of last years' Team and clearly not madsen according to these dates.
If 8 year old kids are the collateral damage of NIL and fundraising then count me the f' out.
My 8 year old is going to be crushed when he doesn't recognize anyone at camp this year.

I think some players stay on campus during summer so will be available for the camp

Maybe you can ask the camp itself

As a guy who raised three kids, with all due respect, if this is the most traumatic occurrence that your 8 year old has to face then things can't be going that badly. Consider it character building.

Maybe there will be some new players there, which would be even better for your child. Now all the kids at the camp could build a bond with the players, and feel invested rooting for them for the next 9 months.

Seriously. Hopefully the entitled bellyaching is now over
