Cal makes Ruff's Top 4. Only visited Cal out of those schools.

Amazing we are even in the convo. We are getting to first couple of years Cuonzo levels again. LFG Mad Dog!

I hate to be negative on this kid, but I really don't like how he starts his shot from his chest. I see a lot of turnovers and shots blocked at the next level unless he changes that.

He would be even better with a faster shot/higher release point but him being a top 50 player despite it tells you how good his game is.

His shot reminds of Lonzo Ball's shooting motion.

I am very confident that Jovani Ruff will be committing to Cal, making him our 5th best recruit in program history.

On3 has put a prediction to Cal for him and his only OV was to Cal. You can rule out Kansas and Oregon (no good interest there). USC would be our only competitor, however, Madsen has recruited him for a while.

Big stuff coming for Cal!

Pretty sure Rabb and Ubaka were higher rated as well.

Rabb for sure, as were McDonald's All Americans Bird and Gardner. I think Jamal Sampson was not McDonalds but top 30. Would have to research players like Ubaka and Fowlkes. And this only goes back to the 90s.

I think we can safely say he is higher ranked than any Fox recruit.

OP is to be excused for his justified overexuberance, but I see him ranked at 41 in 247 and Cal has had plenty of recruits ranked higher in its history, and plenty ranked around that level. I can't verify, but I believe Grigsby as well and we aren't getting into prior eras like the Jim Padgett timeframe where I understand our recruiting was excellent if our results were not up to snuff. Some seem to discount the quality of Cal's history.

But the main point is that this would be an awesome get.

Jovani Ruff decides Wednesday at 2pm PT, and it will be livestreamed by On3 Recruits on YouTube. Watch it here:

Update: he's committed to Cal, and the live announcement is now an archived announcement. Feel free to see how it happened.

But, like UCLA with Ball, we only care about "this level", right? We care if he can help US, not some NBA team at "the next level."

Footage was from HS, so I think the next level is NCAA.

I really like this pickup. Hoping the Mad Dog can keep him into 2025.

Yeah, the one negative about Fox leaving was that it dashed the hopes of my Cal son (5'8') and daughter (5'1") from walking on the men's team last year.

Well he did somehow get Brown to commit, who was decently recruited as a prep. Never understood how/why anyone with options would want to play for Fox in 2023.

IMHO Celestine was a good player and Brown may become one.

Agree, but Celestine was lightly recruited with no decent options and was part of the 2020 class, before it was blatantly obvious to everyone that Fox was terrible. Nothing like Brown's recruitment.

So, do we hope he has a breakout senior season (All-State or McD-AA) which attracts basketball bluebloods to recruit him, or do we hope he just has a pretty good year (all-conference)?

I'm so confused . . .

Bearly Clad

We hope he develops and plays as well as possible. If he gets a wandering eye and decommits then so be it because that's his choice and it means he was never fully invested to begin with. We want to have as good a season as we can and want him to become the best player he can coming into Cal and then be the best player he can coming out of Cal and also to maximize his pro career.

Well, he DID choose Cal over "Bluebloods" like Kansas, Oregon, Washington, UCLA, USC, and others. Kansas is one of the "bluest" of "bloods", and he chose Cal. Maybe there could be a couple of ACC bluebloods, like NC or Duke, if he really wanted to East, or South. But he DID mention that Cal being in Cali was a factor.
