I believe the MBB flew coach (commercial) to Vandy and back.

two of my roommates played varsity '80 thru 83.
One of them won the Jack Wollfman award. Other one was drafted in a late round by the Braves and crushed it for 2 year in single A……I don't recall a JV team although i probably should.

No body recalls that team. A few went on to play on the varsity but 1980 was the apex for Cal baseball. They had a chance to win the NC. Lost to Hawaii in semifinal. Cough up a ninth inning lead. I knew a lot of the names of the varsity guys some I got to know personally.

That is cruel for big guys, some almost 7 ft.! If they are flying that far they should at least be in business class.

I'm pretty tall and when I fly, I always make arrangements months in advance so I can book exit row seats...Plenty of room there and they should be able to book pretty far in advance...of course, if I'm not paying, business class is great...

Most Cal teams will use charters selectively. But otherwise will fly commercial.

Not correct. It was charter home.
It was probably a case of flying charter vs. having to pay for another night of hotels...

Commercial over, charter back. 1) cost savings one flight less and no extra night hotel need 2)Guys get back early early morning for class vs coming back in the afternoon and basically missing the day.
