This one's a challenge, but maybe they get an early lead and hold it this time. On D it looks like we need to focus on Schieffelin and Hunter, shut them down before they gain any momentum.
A few notes from Clemson's media guide:
- Clemson and California have met twice in its series history before meeting as ACC rivals. The Tigers are 1-1 all-time against California, including a neutral site game in the NIT Championship game in 1999 a Clemson loss. Clemson defeated California in the 2022 Emerald Coast Classic.
- Ian Schieffelin is averaging 13.1 points and 11.1 rebounds, while adding 3.0 assists per game. One of three players nationally to average that line. He earned ACC Player of the Week and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for his performances during the week of Dec. 9.
- Schieffelin totaled a career-best 20 rebounds in Clemson's win over Kentucky (Dec. 3). It was the most rebounds in a game for a Tiger since Harold Jamison collected 20 on March 4, 1999 against Florida State. Schieffelin added 11 points and four assists in addition to 20 rebounds in the win over Kentucky. He is the only men's division I player in the last 25 years to put up 10+ points, 20+ rebounds and 4+ assists in a win against an AP Top 5 opponent.
- Chase Hunter is one of just five players nationally to average at least 17.0 points and produce a shooting line of at least .480/.420/.850.

I guess Cal deserves to have a few media notes, too. Offense seems like something that works for us… defense is another story.
1. Andrej Stojakovic has emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the ACC in his first season as a Golden Bear, ranking third in the conference with 19.1 points per game. The sophomore guard is averaging 22.0 PPG in ACC competition so far with 25 points against Stanford on Dec. 7 and 19 at Pitt on Wednesday. Stojakovic does much more than score for the Bears, as he leads the team in blocks (1.3 BPG) and is third in rebounds (4.7 RPG) he's also the only player in the country averaging at least 19.1 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.6 assists per game and 1.3 blocks per game. He's made dramatic improvements since transferring to Cal from rival Stanford, particularly in scoring (7.8 to 19.1 PPG), rebounding (3.4 to 4.7 RPG), blocks (0.1 to 1.3 BPG) and shooting splits (.409/.327/.528 to .440/.358/.833).

2. Freshman Jeremiah Wilkinson is making the most of his early opportunities in Cal's rotation, averaging 17.1 PPG with eight double-figure scoring efforts in the past nine games. Wilkinson, who scored 24 at Pitt on Wednesday, ranks fourth among ACC freshmen with 12.7 PPG on the season while averaging the fewest minutes played per game (20.7) of the five ACC rookies who are averaging double-figure points. The Powder Springs, Georgia, native is shooting 57.4% on 2-point attempts and can catch fire from deep with multiple 3-point makes in six games (33.9 3FG%).

barsad, thx for the data ... I also subscribe to Kenpom and am amazed at all the stats ... but it takes quite a long time to figure out what stat is important. The 4 Factors seem to be what Kenpom things is important, but besides the effective FG stat and turnovers I don't quite understand why those are so important.

Those Mady stats are a lot higher than most people on BI have been giving him credit for.
I think Pomeroy picked offensive boards because they create scoring opps and limit second chances for an opponent, while free throws plus FG attempts is a measure of aggressiveness (i.e. you take it to the hoop or battle for rebounds, you get fouled more than avg). If anyone knows the keys to winning in college hoops it's KenPom, but it has never helped my March Madness bracket!

High pick and roll defense is still problematic. At least we are trying to change how we defend it. Problem is, the rotation on the 2nd pass is too slow and our communication isn't good as we have had 2 guys running at one guy.

One stat that would appear to be worthy of mention is that Clemson must lead the ACC -- if not the nation -- in ugly-ass looking players. That #4 Shfflnfln, whatever, looks like Porky Pig. And don't get me started on that guy from Air Force. And their cheerleaders aren't very hot either.

His confidence is definitely down. You can just see it. I think the competition has stepped up and due to his size, he isn't getting the looks like he did in the first few games. He isn't overly quick for his size and he doesn't move off ball (he literally stands in one place with his hands out calling for the ball).
Dort is also playing poorly right now.

Tigers shooting 63% from the arc (7 treys) and they only have a 3 point lead. If we can keep up our dominance in the paint and they cool off from the arc, we may upset them.
