What are Ga. Tech's weaknesses? Their stats are not particularly impressive, but beating Louisville and Clemson in February (the Furd, too) is impressive, so they're on a hot streak.
Their 66.7% FT shooting stands out as particularly bad (329th), so let's play aggressive D and not be afraid to foul in the paint, no easy layups.

ESPN Matchup Predictor gives us a 31.2% chance. Georgia Tech is 11-5 at home and Cal is 2-7 on the road.

Speaking of Fucla, and since no one seems to care much about the Tech game, I thought I'd check in on all the former Pac 12 teams to see how they're doing after realignment… and more importantly, figure out why so many fared better than Cal did:
From KenPom rankings, sorted by Netrtg
Ortg= points scored per 100 possessions
Drtg= opponent points scored per 100 possessions;
Netrtg = Difference of O - D
Sorry in advance, can't do straight columns on my phone.

Soooo… a lot of mediocrity from the former Conference of Champions in Year 1 of realignment. Do we have any solace that there's a team with a worse record? (Colorado)
When you look at all of it as a group, you see how destructive the Pac12 dissolution was…. or was the Pac12 just that bad?

Neither, really. People out west are a little less inclined to fund or follow professional minor league sports.

Seems like most of the old PAC 12 teams ended up in a better overall basketball conference than the original PAC-12 offered. Couple that with NIL, Portal dominance, and longer travel logistics and you have a recipe for mediocre results. At least out the gate.

It's a real test of Cal fandom tomorrow at 1 pm Pacific. Do you watch Cal work its tail off to scratch out a win against an equally mediocre Ga. Tech?
OR
Do you watch No. 1 Alabama vs No, 2 Auburn for a Final Four preview that will determine this week's No. 1 ranking?
I've never found it satisfying to watch two screens at once, but what's a good Cal fan (but also a fan of good hoops) supposed to do?

Watch Cal but during timeouts switch to A/A. If in the second half game gets out of reach for Cal then I switch to split screen.

True, plus the net tournament bids this year for the former P12 should be three, which is only one less than their historical average (4.2 per year). Interesting article from 2020 about conference comparisons in the tournament.

As I read your post, I had a brain fart and reflected "Wow! We've beaten the top two teams!"

Cal WBB has beaten both Auburn and Alabama this season.

Whatever. . . Go Bears!
