Hmm… I did not see Hasse stand up so I didn't see what kind of shape he is in but I wonder if he could run up and down the court all night like officials have to.Addicted-to-TopDog said:

I was in the building from the tip-off though I missed the senior ceremony before. I thought the energy was low at the beginning but improved greatly as the game got close then we pulled away. I didn't count the attendees.barsad said:HKBear97! said:Really? Didn't watch the game, but just watched the highlights on ESPN.com. Stands looked very empty.BC Calfan said:

My God there are some real glass-half-empty folks on this Forum, but I guess that's the whole online world, no different here.
5.020 attended, 30% more than the season average 3,889. I was there, and the fans were into it on senior day, and the guys ultimately delivered the win we badly needed. Now I'll wait for those who want to discuss how attendance isn't the number of people in the stands, blah-blah, or those really informed people who were nowhere near Haas last night but have a strong opinion about the energy inside the building based on a 3-second clip they saw. Go ahead.

If Haase was assigned to officiate a Kansas game, would he make a deal before the game to go work for KU after the game?
;-)
I'll never forget Haase' extra-long consoling from Roy Williams after we lost to Kansas. I was thinking at the time, whoa, that's weird. Sure enough, he transfers there.a few weeks later.

While your "tale of two teams" observation is valid, the simple truth is that for most of this season "the team that plays with heart" team generally only shows up against the mediocre-at best teams. Most of this year's results have still been determined by talent on the floor. Hopefully that changes next year.barsad said:
It was a Tale of Two Teams last night: the team that we have been seeing all year that makes fundamental mistakes and blows 10-point leads in a blink of the eye, and the team that plays with heart, as represented by Mady's force-of-nature performance - one that refuses to let a less talented team get the better of them.
I feel like if we had seen the version of Mady we saw last night the whole season, combined with the balanced offensive production (3 other guys in double figures, 49% shooting), then we'd have 4 or 5 more wins.
When do we hear about Mady's application for another year of eligibility?
We have a shot at win No. 14 next Sat. against Notre Dame (I've written off the Louisville game, but I'll take a miracle, too).
No one will call this season a success, but if we have a good offseason with recruiting, we may look back on this year 5 years from now as the start of something good.
Attendance was slightly better than normal but for whatever reason, fans seemed more engaged. I'll actually give marketing some rare props here. They brought out the Swim-Diving and Women's gymnastics ACC champs to good ovations. The gymnastics team did a little dance routine with the cheerleaders which was fun to see---they got into it. Hafltime show was a cute little girls dance team that got a good reception. The Bearettes and the band were fantastic and seemed to be getting more praise than usual.HKBear97! said:Really? Definitely. Toews had a great impact of the bench. Hopefully we can nab some 6'4 combo guards that can shoot this offseason. Every team seems to have at least one of those players except us.HoopDreams said:

100% in the "not there" group. Which puts me in the vast majority of alums, fans, former fans, and all members of the Cal community. After years of season tickets, Cal has to earn my entertainment dollar, something they have not done in years. If that disqualifies my opinion in your eyes, I can live with that. Your focus is misdirected. The program is fundamentally unsound. That is your problem. Not whether I or anyone else is going to a game between the 15th place team and 17th place team in conference. Our program isn't unsound because people don't go to games. People don't go to games because our program is unsound. I think every single one of you who go to games is great. Live your best life. If you enjoy it no matter what product is put on the court, you do you. But if that is what it takes to be a member of the club, you are going to be left with people lauding the mere possibility of a 14 win/7 conference win season as an improvement over a 13 win/9 conference win season. And that is going to be an even smaller club than you have now.

You didn't ask a simple question. You made a statement that my opinion was disqualified. Then you asked a simple question that on its face seems intended to further prove your point that my opinion is disqualified. I answered your question then responded to your assertion that my opinion was disqualified. Whether your question was intended to bolster your assertion, the assertion was made and I responded to it. If you don't tell me my opinion is disqualified, we aren't having this conversation.RedlessWardrobe said:Geez, I just asked you a simple question, a yes or no would have been fine.BearlyCareAnymore said:100% in the "not there" group. Which puts me in the vast majority of alums, fans, former fans, and all members of the Cal community. After years of season tickets, Cal has to earn my entertainment dollar, something they have not done in years. If that disqualifies my opinion in your eyes, I can live with that. You may want to consider that a circle jerk of the handful of people going to every game is not going to reawaken Haas. I have literally no Cal friends left that still go to games and that includes several that I have spent hours at a time with in the past talking Cal sports. One I just caught up with didn't know who our coach was. These are all people I would have sworn would go to the grave as season ticket holders.RedlessWardrobe said:While your mathematics justifies your opinion, the fact that you go by "BearlyCareAnymore" in turn disqualifies it. Kind of curious, were you part of the "there group" or part of the "not there group"? Great energy at Haas last night. And this for a 13-16 team. If we can retain and improve for next season, look out.
Go ahead.
As far as my "focus" being "misdirected", I think you are overthinking things. I'm a Cal fan, so I participate on this website. If you "bearly care anymore", I don't understand why you even bother to spend your time here analyzing me and giving me advice. Its ironic, you tell me "live your best life" but based on your traumatic tone you might want to apply that line of thinking to yourself.
I said to go ahead and live your best life assuming that is what you are doing. You are the one telling me how I should spend my time. There was nothing traumatic in either of my posts. I made a simple assertion that calling someone a half empty person for not joining in lauding a more than half empty arena was laughable. I don't see that opinion was traumatic or so negative that I should be disqualified from posting. I think if that does that for you, you should reevaluate your tolerance level.
And as BigC suggests, my name is "bearly" care, not "barely" care. Yes, the pun is intended, but the two words don't mean the same thing.
I've been to every home game this season, and this one was definitely up there as far as energy is concerned. Not a big crowd, but very much engaged. Then I came home and watched the ESPNU broadcast I had recorded, and in large part that fan energy did not come through on TV. I complained on this Forum a lot during the game, but thanks to those two consecutive late threes by Andrej and Jeremiah and Mady's ferociousness, I really enjoyed this win.BC Calfan said:Attendance was slightly better than normal but for whatever reason, fans seemed more engaged. Didn't watch the game, but just watched the highlights on ESPN.com. As for the game, it was competitive and free-flowing which kept fans involved. Maybe it was because of Senior Night? The Saturday night effect? Or maybe it was my pregame martini.. Either way, a fun night in Haas and a reminder of the "sleeping giant" that Madsen referenced when he got hired.

Agreed, it's much easier to evaluate the atmosphere of a game when you actually attend. Initially I think that's all Barsad was trying to point out. But BearlyCareAnymore (did I get the spelling right?), had an issue with it and unfortunately I got involved in the middle of it. Led to me being lectured and psycho analyzed on a board that's supposed to be about Cal basketball. Well, I guess everyone has to do their own thing, but again your analysis above was spot on.
