I wonder whether games like tonight will influence Stoj's (and Peja's) decision about whether to return to Cal for another season?

While general criticism is fair ,I feel the "selfish player" tag is not. Too many times this year he ends up shooting because he and JW are the only players we have capable of creating their own shot. And with our offense quite often it becomes a neccessity.Addicted-to-TopDog said:
Addition by subtraction. Should have known what a selfish player he would be based on how we got him and what Madsen had to guarantee him.
Yeah - I haven't seen this. What I saw last night (and it is just so much true on the offensive end this year) is that we are incapable of hitting open shots. We get them. I saw a number of opportunities. But clank.RedlessWardrobe said:While general criticism is fair ,I feel the "selfish player" tag is not. See I disagree (in part) with this. There were several times where our guards penetrated. They kicked to the wing. Sometimes then an extra pass was made to the corner. And then STJ or Petris would brick. Sometimes the high ball screen to JW and then the guard would close and with a hand in face --- brick.HearstMining said:
If you don't have enough players who can create their own shot, then you need schemes to get players open. Without those schemes, you end up with what Rod Benson mentions: boring basketball. It's not as inept as the WyFox eras, but it's not gonna put butts in the seats, let alone win games.
Fair points - Cal does not have great shooters. But in your examples, I believe the end results are all, or mostly missed 3pt shots. Cal hasn't accepted the fact that they aren't a consistent 3pt shooting team. A few weeks back, I attended the Cal-Syracuse women's game (my first since 1976!) where Cal shot 5-19 on 3pt shots, but they still won via players getting open and good passing resulting in midrange and inside shots. The men's team apparently can't do this and that's what I was attempting to point out.socaltownie said:See I disagree (in part) with this. There were several times where our guards penetrated. Meanwhile watch Cardinals. At least in the first half their offense isn't that amazingly better. But they make their shots.

Incidentally, Cal women play Virginia at 2PM (PST) today on the ACC network.
