ND triggers me. I am still salty about the ghost offsides call that could only be a straight cheat by the refs. There was no possibility of an honest mistake.

As an actual Irishman, I detest ND. Professional Catholics, same as the Kennedys, and like them, usually dirtier than the next guy.

Just curious, if you said something similar about Muslims, would that get censored here?

I'll say whatever I want to about my ethnic group and faith and never ask your permission. Not once. Ever. I've got lots of inside info on both.
.

LOL. Okay, sure. No stereotyping here!

Announcers blew their history:

Cal had a five-overtime, 107-102 victory over Oregon in 1977

I was at the 5 OT game vs. Oregon, too.

I believe the late Gene Ransom went for 36, as did Wilkinson today. Greg Ballard went for 41 or 43 or something like that, similar to Burton's 43 today. Uncanny if both the high scorers were exactly the same.

Of course, the differences are significant: Five OT instead of four and, especially, Cal won that one.

The thing I remember most from that game was Late Gene Ransom playing every single second until fouling out in 5th OT

Ransom played 63.5 minutes, which might never be topped be a Cal player.

I was there for the five OT game too! As I recall, from regulation through the first four OTs, each period ended with a dramatic make or miss to extend the game. Some rarely used players ended up having big roles since so many of the main rotation players had fouled out. Harmon Gym was special, and that game was the highlight among the many exciting games I saw there.

Freshman Kevin Singleton came off the bench to hit a few key baskets for the Bears.

Harmon was raucous that night, especially compared to the game not long before (or after?), when Dave Maggard came out on the court before the game to announce that Joe Roth had died. You could hear a pin drop.

Was it the game where ransom found Jay Young streaking to the basket for a layout in one or the last overtime to seal it? vague memories

The 5 OT game was the year after Jay Young, Ricky Hawthorne, Carl Bird, etc. Gene Ransom was a soph. "Sugar Bear" Ray Murray was the leading scorer on that team. Doug True was a freshman. Coach Dick Edwards was in his penultimate season for the Bears.

KALX was broadcasting the game and legend is that the DJ tired of waiting to play music as his shift time evaporated and as the fourth OT was ending and a shot was out up, he turned the game off and said on air "you'll never know" and did nit turn game back on.
