Yeah, what about it? I thought this thread was supposed to be about where he's going and the outside chance he's staying. I mean, you know, now that Ron has the keys, although that doesn't seem to have anything to do with basketball. (Do I sound confused? Probably because I am!)

That's what the predictors say. Even tho different schools like Gonzaga and NC ,etc pop up . Wonder why it was tweeted about a possible return to Cal? Would it have made a difference if it was a higher NIL, who his new teammates would be, comfort level, Guarantee of tournament success or what??? We already know he would be the premiere marquee star here and would get recognition/NBA interest no matter how successful Cal was next season.

F Andre, it's a bad breakup, never want to see him again, don't call, don't text. Illinois can have him.
Don't want him on Cal's roster even if he agreed to be an unpaid walk-on.

Not too upset about losing the guy that we got when he bailed from Furd. He has upside, but he was not that great for us. I'd rather his spot be opened up for our other promising 2s. Hopefully one steps up, maybe Ruff or Pippen?

Lots of mlb, nfl, and NBA teams in right to work States. They make it work somehow.
Huge difference here: In a college football or basketball collective bargaining agreement, most of the employers (or the members of what is collectively deemed the employer in the agreement) are public universities controlled directly or indirectly by elected officials who are extremely conservative and anti-union. It is absolutely unrealistic to think that the powers that be in Alabama or South Carolina or North Carolina would permit their states' public universities to be parties to a contract that makes their universities' athletes union members.

I do not have time to research but I would be stunned if even in right to work states public safety employees are ununiozed. Bet a top dog most are.
are top dogs a new type of currency for Cal fans now? Kinda like bitcoins?

What is needed is for Congress to give the NCAA antitrust immunity.

Right, because what Congress is best known for is its tradition of practical bipartisanship on complex issues. And after all, the President is really focused on the Great Portal Dilemma based on all the public statements he's made about it.
This is about as practical as the previously mentioned en masse fan walkout. There are good minds on this Forum, we can do better than sci fi solutions.
F the portal.

Screw that. Promise Trump the two best seat at the national championship game, and have him issue yet another executive order. Who cares if the courts try to intercede? Pam Bondi will just go Logan Roy on SCOTUS, and we will have solution to current Portal issues.

I'm guessing that all of you malice should REALLY be directed at Andre's agent (Do you know who that is?). They have a team of people working social media to maximize the size of Andre's $$$ and directly their cut of the money.

From what I have seen, most of the postings aren't even from players themselves. At a minimum, the 'sincere' missives are drafted by a PR firm.

The agent world for Cal sports is now real, so not sure what you hope the malice is going to accomplish. For all you or any of us know, the same agent has directed, or will direct players to Cal at some point. On top of which, he is more than likely to have a pretty experienced agent team, considering his dad's involvement and knowledge of the world off the court.

So if the roster is full, that mean's Stojakovich can't come back to Cal even if he wants to. Is that right?

If the limit is still 15 then there are 2 spots left. I would think until AS officially leaves we are still reserving appropriated NIL $ if he returns. Once he commits elsewhere those funds can be used for the remaining two incoming player spots.

So if players have until Fall classes start to make a final decision does that mean Cal cannot make or complete offers with NIL to anyone else to fill those 2 opens spots and are left in limbo until AS officially committs elsewhere i.e. Illinois?

We can offer as soon as we give up on Stojakovic. There's been some discussion of that on the premium board.

Time to offer someone else? According to Jon Rothstein, he'll decide among Illinois, Stanford, or UNC.

If he were to return to Furd, imagine the welcome he would receive in Haas next season. I wonder what Oski would accidentally spill on his dad...

Honestly, if something like this occurred years ago,(which literally couldn't happen then), there would be some crazy stuff that would have happened. But based on the chaos of the current conditions, he'd probably receive some extended booing and heckling to begin with, but things would calm down after that. At this point I wouldn't waste very must energy being emotional about this thing, since teams appear to be made up of more transfers than not anyway.

Has any player who went through the Portal for greener pastures ever gone back through the portal to return to the school to which he originally committed?

The level of maturity of some of these children who demand lots of money for playing college ball is really appalling.

A far cry from the Cal of my youth, where Cal gave out plenty of basketball scholarships - a full roster, along with a JV roster, and a new frosh roster of 17 bodies every year. And any player who received a scholarship, was required to work 20 hours a week to keep it. There is a reason why Pete Newell required kids to work to earn a scholarship, and it was to introduce them to work, which in turn can help them mature.

BTW, how does this reflect on the program run by Mark Madsen, if a player leaves Madsen's Cal program to return to his former school? He realizes he made the wrong decision to come to Cal. Of course he could be going back to Stanford for other reasons, like being closer to a girlfriend who might be attending Stanford. Who knows? It is another reason to be very careful when we invest in any young athlete who might be an immature one.

Seems somewhat odd for him to re-consider Stanford, although they did graduate/lose their top 3 scorers. Is he looking for an opportunity for even more free reign to lead the offense, or does he view the winning situation at the Furd to be more attractive albeit losing their best players for next season.

Illinois and UNC are obvious, it is the potential opportunity to be a good player on a top team.

Last time his final 3 were North Carolina, Kentucky and Cal. He chose Cal.

It is like when he was a HS recruit, 5 star, McDonald's AA, son of an NBA player with good academics, he had offers from ALL the top programs. His visits were Stanford, UCLA, Oregon and Texas. He chose Stanford.

He clearly likes the West Coast, the Bay Area especially.

Stanford did win 21 last year. He entered the Portal on Mar 18, 2024 which was a week before Kyle Smith was named as the new Stanford coach. Smith had zero chance at him when he was at WSU so this might be his first chance to be recruited by him and get to know him, and he clearly like Stanford enough to go there the first time.

So Stanford this time is kind of like Stanford his first time and Cal his second time: the comfortable choice with a coach he likes where he would be featured.

Yes. Trilly Donovan even came up with a term for this phenomenon: a Marfo.

Kevin Marfo went from George Washington to Quinnipiac to Texas A&M to Quinnipiac. There have been others; CBS Sports noticed the bounce-back trend and made a list of what they called "boomerang transfers".

Brendan Barry: Dartmouth to Temple to Dartmouth
Jason Carter: Ohio to Xavier to Ohio
Pedro Castro: UT Arlington to Houston Baptist to UT Arlington
Jaylen Fornes: UNC Wilmington to Nicholls State to UNC Wilmington
Both Gach: Utah to Minnesota to Utah
Caleb Grill: Iowa State to UNLV to Iowa State to Missouri
Jeriah Horne: Nebraska to Tulsa to Colorado to Tulsa
Tyler Harris: Memphis to Iowa State to Memphis to South Florida
Randy Miller Jr: Mount St. Mary's to NC Central to Indiana State to NC Central
Elijah Olaniyi: Stony Brook to Miami to Stony Brook
Payton Sparks: Ball State to Indiana to Ball State
Dimencio Vaughn: Rider to Ole Miss to Rider
Payton Willis: Vanderbilt to Minnesota to Charleston to Minnesota

But here's the topper, which just happened this offseason.

Meechie Johnson: Ohio State to South Carolina to Ohio State to South Carolina

It's a Double Marfo, and Trilly Donovan calls it a Meechie.
