741 Performance (Jaylen Brown) - a cautionary tale

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just want to warn any Cal Bears that if you decide to purchase product from 741 Performance, all sales are "as is" and there is no return policy despite what the returns menu says.

I bought a pair of sneakers for $200 to support JB in his rebellion against Nike, but when I got the shoes, they were too small (even thought the shoe said 8.5 and that is the size I always wear for running shoes). So I went to 741 Performance website to try to contact them for an exchange. Under the returns/exchange page, it said I should return the shoes for refund and initiate a new order for the larger size. It also said I should initiate the return through the returns portal and I had 30 days to return the shoes. However, as much as looked, I could not find a link to a returns portal. So I sent an email to customer service asking for directions. They did not respond.

Finally, I decided to ask ChatGPT what to do. It referred me to the returns portal, but couldn't provide a working link to it. After some give and take, Q&A, it finally told me that the warranty terms says that all sales are final and they will not accept returns! ***?!

I really hope they get their act together! Right now, it looks like I just wasted $200.

Am I reading your message correctly in that you're taking ChatGPT's assertion that 741 Performance doesn't accept returns as accurate? Why are you doing so unless you actually have heard from 741 directly? I'm sure they're being pretty bad by being unresponsive and not actually having a working link to the Returns Portal but you really shouldn't take ChatGPT's word on this against the policy that's plainly displayed on the site.

Was the email that you used this one? "customerservice@741performance.com" from the Terms & Conditions? If you did already maybe also try texting "HELP" to the number you received messages from (assuming you did receive some kind of text notification. I'll note that the Terms & Conditions are sloppy as they leave placeholder text for links to the Return and Exchange policy instead of an actual URL or link.

Another option could be reaching out to Shopify which the 741 terms say they use. https://www.shopify.com/legal/tools/report-an-issue/order-issue you can try to report an order issue with them as they say you can try them if the seller is unresponsive. Maybe worth contacting anyway to explain that you want to return the product.

As a last ditch effort I would just ask your credit card company for a chargeback and explain that you are trying to return product but that their customer service team has been unresponsive for X days and show them that you did try to reach them by email and didn't get an answer. If you try reaching out to Shopify also then this is another indication that you've made efforts to reach them for a resolution before turning to this. Do this within the 30 day return window on their site and screenshot that policy for your record. Warning though, It'll possibly prevent you from shopping here in the future though (and not sure if it hurts your future rep with Shopify platforms in general which could be an issue since many stores use it now).

Actually, after ChatGPT pointed out what the warranty said, I did go back to the 741 Performance website to read the warranty section, and what ChatGPT said was correct. The warranty section contradicts what the returns section says. If you're interested, then you can check it out for yourself. [https://www.741performance.com/warranty-information]

I'm not out to "get" the company. I have no axe to grind here. Just telling the community my experience with the hopes that someone from the company actually sees my comments and fixes the problem. I really wish JB the best in his endeavor, but the company should address this issue if they really want to compete with the big shoe companies.

Got a nice email from 741 Performance! I think someone there does read this forum. So they sent me a shipping label to return my shoes and promised to send me replacement pair in larger size. So happy was able to resolve this issue and still wishing JB the best in his endeavors.
